It is a concern, but American cherry wood is even softer and people still install cherry floors in their living rooms and such. Depends on where you are going to install it, and how many children are in the household. It may not do very well in the kitchen where activities happen all day. But again if you look at the Janka Hardness Scale it is very close in hardness to red oak.
