What about flipping the question? Why not ask yourself,

’Does Alabaster (SW/BM?) work well with the other fixed finishes, (floor, tile etc), paint colours and inherent light in my space?’

If the answer is ‘Yes!’ then I would use it.

Ok, I just had a designer walk in and say that Alabaster is so 80's and I want to know if this is true so I know to trust her opinions.

Maybe she does feel it appears dated with your setting & furnishings - but it’s a bit of an easy, throw-away line.

Personally I would be more concerned about how well a colour works with what you already have in the space & the available light. And how it helps achieve the effect you are aiming for.

Warm white will always be timeless. My designer recommended Alabaster for my new kitchen cabinets. Very easy on the eyes!

I don't think Alabaster is dated but that would depend on it with other elements (flooring, decor, lighting, etc). It was just Sherwin Williams color of the year in 2016 or 2017 if I remember.
