I have no idea I have never built a hot tub IMO too many things to go wrong and I think if he doesn’t want to do it for whatever reason he will probably make a mess of it so get a different tile guy .BTW I see no red line.

Glass tile requires a special prep of water proofing and the use of a special thinset mortar. There are many methods of choice by contractors that can vary, Companies such as, Latricrete, have a preferred method to install glass tile using their products.

Perhaps this contractor does not want to tackle the details involved. It takes finesse and time to have all the grout joints line up and make sure the tile sits flush and square to the spa. Cutting pieces around the spa jets is tricky to make it look good. That goes for any of the pipe penetrations for that matter.

The right contractor can provide a beautiful result. Glass tile is very elegant and we offer it to all our clients as an upgrade. Some prefer it right from the start.

Your pool guy is a goofball who doesn't want to do skilled labor. Of course it looks good! (but the tile setter has to know what he's doing. Your pool guy has obviously never done this... Clue 1!)

BTW, not a cheap option...

you can do the tile around the top portion of the waters edge. You can still have your tile, it just won't go down to the jets. which is fine.

however, I'd rethink hiring this buffoon tile guy you have. He doesn't seem to know what to do. you need an expert tile setter for a project like this. (and they should dry layout the tile so that when one end meets the other end, it matches up. someone on here had that exact problem with a inexperienced tile guy) So make sure you get a pro to do this.

Or, here's one that was tiled completely. this is a big job that needs to have all the right materials. hire wisely

Glass is always a beautiful upgrade. It will cost more because it requires more skill to install. Any builder out there has been through many tile guys who just weren't skilled enough to install glass. It's an art. You get what you pay for in the end either way.
