So then I did a google book search for "Corn Jumper Plow"

There are a number of old books that reference the Jumper Plow.

The only thing I could find was a Jumper bit, but that made no sense in the context of the quote. "he planted 10 acres of corn with an old fashioned Jumper and a boy to ride the horse."

With your references; The farmer managed the plow as it cut through the virgin soil and periodically broke the pin and the boy kept the horse in places as the farmer reset the plow blade.

I have an ancestor in the 1810 census. In the census it states he had three horned cattle. which I assumed was a pair of oxen and a milk cow. (He had three children under 5 at the time.) I could always picture him plowing his new farm that was being cut out of the forest. Now to that picture I have to add a jumper plow, and watch him struggle with the plow to get through the field.
