Comments (21)Thanks for your answers! That is a huge space! What fun! To look different than the neighborhood, think in layers. The canopy is the tallest trees that are there already. Use understory plants (shrubs and small trees) as your tallest plants. Use shorter shrubs, perennials and groundcovers for the remainder. Being such a large area, you could use mulch in some areas to cut down on the cost of plants. You could do groupings of plants with mulch or decorative gravel between them. You might want to consider a winding pathway of crusher fines running through your plantings down to a bench, which would be hidden from the road by some evergreens. Is it too shady for some grass? A bit of lawn close to the house to lay on in summer or play on. Do you have kids? This space could be a wonderful oasis! Visit some nurseries to look at plants, take notes, ask questions. They may have display gardens. Visit botanical gardens, too, for examples of landscape design and to see how things look in winter as well as summer....See MoreNeed help with trim and door color
Comments (54)Before you do anything drastic, like painting the brick (which will be something you will need to maintain ... very time consuming), try the simple fixes first. Paint you front door in a rust/orange shade as you suggested. Remove the molding from the panel under the window and refresh the stain on the wood sections. Paint your rocking chair black and add a large modern black planter on the other side of the porch. Spruce up the landscaping ... then step back and see if that doesn't make things a whole lot better....See MoreBest Dishwasher?
Comments (305)Zaaaaaaaaazzzzz Happy New Year to you and your brood!! Also to all my old friends here. I have been crazy busy with so very little time to do anything for myself. The days I get to take a shower I feel blessed. My older kidlets are being home schooled for now. We have been fostering and currently I am down to 3 kidlets 14, 13 and 3 yo girls and a 2 yo boy that just left my care. To boot I am working from home in between fielding schoolwork questions and chasing toddlers with death wishes. The 3 kidlets may change in a heartbeat :) and 3 may become 4 with the ringing of a doorbell on the New Year's day. The agency likes to keep me busy. I was out of dishwasher agent today. What a stupid thing to have to be worried about in a pandemic. My dishwasher started flashing and added 15 minutes to the cycle with no way to get around it. I was groussing about that when I opened this email.... Happy New Years to ALL and to all A LONG SHOWER!!!! Be well my friends....See MoreStacked Cabinets & Hardware Choices
Comments (8239)HI Ladies, it's so fun to find this thread again. I too couldn't find it for a long time (no alerts). Just wanted to pop on and say hi! Hope you are all doing well and staying healthy, and positive. If we can get through a year like we had last year, we can do ANYTHING! @nidnay - did you ever find your backsplash? @pink_peony - you are re-doing your splash? Is the Esplanade your final decision? @Beth how are you liking your new kitchen? I was at a big showroom in Costa Mesa 2 weeks ago....so many gorgeous new styles and designs! It is quite disappointing to see how expensive good faucets with PVD finish are now. And the appliances?! The new black series in many brands sends me in an entire new direction design-wise. The inside of the new Jenn-Air fridge (black) is stunning, Decor has similar. Oh dear! Realistically, I'll probably go Bosch again, Thermador or KitchenAid (new black series).... If anyone has a big NO on any of these, let me know! @Flo Mangan - sorry, I can't seem to go back much further than a few pages, but hope you are enjoying your new home (from a few years ago, correct)? I give Lexus a 2-thumbs up as well! (Thank God I have a thumb because I bought a machete at HD and was trying to trim some dead branches off a small palm, and whacked my thumb. Looked down and it was still there! THANK YOU JESUS! Ran to my brother to get stitched up. It still hurts....stupid things we do to get the job done...) :-) Still haven't had much time to prep for my remodel, but funny how my tastes have changed in just a few years.... Still collecting kitchen ideas (260+), so hope to make some decisions soon...hahahaha. Have a blessed Sunday!...See Morewindymess z6a KC, Ks
