Backsplash suggestions?

Hi,

Can anyone give me backsplash suggestions with this combo? The kitchen is a galley, so all is along one wall. There's a fridge on one side (that will be stainless/left) and the stove on the other.

The floor is a bit more of a blue-gray, I think, than the photo shows. It's a floating floor designed like slate, so it's a bit busy.

The original backsplash is ceramic tile that was bought at Home Depot around 2008. You can see why we can't have it anymore, but the colors aren't bad with what we have.

The dilemma is that I'm not totally sold on today's glass/shiny backsplashes because this is such a heavy use area with splashes. The matte of the ceramic has been perfect. I like mosiacs, but I don't like the ones with little horizontal tiles or the mixed glass/stone ones. I like subway tiles. Maybe a glass subway could work even though it's shiny? Or a shaped ceramic tile? I don't know and feel overwhelmed.

Color-wise I think white would be too stark; I like softer colors. Material would be ceramic, not natural stone.

Any tips/suggestions?

It looks like you remove the granite 4” backsplash did you hate that or the actual backsplash? I think now all the tile needs to come down the drywall repaired and IMO a glass subwaty tile in a color from the counter maybe even the gold toned brown in the counter make sure the grout matches to keep the backsplash from getting too busy.

I just want to say I really like your cabinets and hardware. A very soft milk white may work, or light blue/green. Beth H is the tile pro on here and will likely jump in. You might want to look at tilebar.com as you can order samples 5 for $5. I personally am in love with the longer subway style matte ceramic that has a slight wave in it as it looks and feels handmade. A better picture of your floor and wall would be helpful. Can't wait to see how it looks!

I would pick a light tone from your counter -- could be a cream, light gray, or taupe. Find some simple subway-style tiles in those colors (ceramic or porcelain are fine!) and bring them home to see how they look in your space, with the floors, etc.

Patricia, the previous counter was formica and it had the splash up the wall. I had it removed and didn't want it with the granite. So yes, I know we have to pull down the old tile and do any repair, running the tile to the counter. That will be so much easier to clean without that "ledge" the old counter had also. Thanks for the tip about grout.

Thank you, KeeptheFaith, for the compliment and the tip. I'm loving the dark brown off the gray floor. It was the last thing I thought I wanted, but when they showed it to me in the showroom, it just felt right. I'm so, so glad I didn't go with white cabinets/white counters.

I am definitely checking out the tile site you mentioned. The wave sounds like something I'd like.

Perhaps try picking the lightest color in the countertop to be the backsplash.
