Drapes have not gone out of style, but should be appropriately used as any other window treatment would be, to suit the style of room. Consider your style and needs and if your old drapes suit your new home, as that’s important as well.

My old house had more proportional windows. This apartment has beige modern windows.

I like how clean and uncluttered the windows currently look. I’m considering leaving my old curtains for the people who bought my house. There is a pretty view of the park from the second and third picture windows.

I like the idea of eliminating dust catchers and dust makers. I like the clean look of an open window, but it sure is nice to have something to be able to pull over the window for sun or privacy.

Shades of some nature are a great alternative, but in a kitchen I would want something that is easily cleaned, or, at least easy enough to clean that you can clean it.

You can get blinds with all manner of different features such as black out, top down, outside mount, cordless, etc. and made of different materials.
