Woo hoo! You got a bloom! And yes, I do see the other tiny peduncle there.

I noticed today that my multiflora appears to be pushing out some new buds on one of the peduncles as well. So it should be blooming in a few weeks. It just finished blooming on two peduncles. I think I have the solution to bud blast resolved now too. So that's a good thing.

Be safe. By the way, I lost one of my favorite Lacunosa too. So we can sulk together. Good thing I started new cuttings this last summer before I did. They are doing good.

Mike, sorry to hear you lost your lacunosa, too. Hopefully I'll find a larger plant of it if I go to the big box stores any time soon. I have no cuttings of it, sadly. Really looking forward to seeing if my H. rosarioae will bloom this year (get one if you can find it, it's one of the easiest ones out there). As well as my orange flowered lobbii (got that one from Etsy). Anticipating warmer weather. Really need to start scavenging for old windows to build a greenhouse....eh, a guy can dream.

I read something about using orchid spray to prevent bud blast and it seems to have worked last time. I lightly spritzed my multiflora every other day when it was forming the buds. Miracle Gro makes one but I'm sort of against MG, so I found a non-MG alternative:

Aha! Orchid food! I've been using the MG on mine and I really think it made some of mine bud up like mad. Especially Red Buttons this past summer. They really seem to like it, along with the tomato food I give them when I water. Since they're both epiphytes, it would make sense that they would like similar nutrients.

I hope so! My tiny (two-leaf) plant hasn't grown since I got it from Secret Garden Rare Plants. They had loheri at one point, as well. I'll have to check again, and Gardino's (though they're not restocking at this time). Etsy has been good to me, too. But I digress.

I think I'll water a couple plants before work later on today.

That's looking good Brad. These plants bloom so reliably it's incredible. Yours seems to be very content sitting in front of the blinds. How do you handle the nectar? I take mine when it's blooming and surround it with Post-it notes! It drips continually. What I don't sample and eat usually ends up on the post-its, so it's easy to clean up. If you haven't tried tasting the nectar I would strongly advise you to do so - you'll see why a bee would love it.

I am not sure how I'll handle the nectar. I'll have to get an additional tray to place under it since I don't want it dripping over the plant stand. It's in a south facing window, so it can get warm in here during the daytime. I hear this one has a fleeting fragrance, if memory serves me.

It gives me something to smile about lately. That's not been the easiest thing to do anymore. Especially when you don't feel like it.

Bill, the infamous Brassavola, my God, delicious! I love this plant and it never occurred to me to grow one in my house, just in my greenhouse where I am not there most of the time to even enjoy it. I have pulled a couple in just to see if I can make one flower too. How do you grow yours? Under lights or in a window my friend?

Brad, that has to be a pain but well worth it right? I am happy things like that make you smile. It's the little things that make me smile and in fact that just might be a big thing for some of us))) Hope you are ok.

Mike - I put the brassavola outside in the late spring. She hangs under a tree in very bright to direct sunlight. In the fall I bring her inside and she sits on a windowsill through the end of fall (sept / october) thru winter and into early summer. She'll be outside in late April early May again.

This year I absolutely need to repot her. The pot is self destructing every time I touch it. The sun damage and ultraviolet rays have really taken a toll on the plastic. I'm thinking of breaking the put as much as possible, then putting the remnants, root ball and whatever else is in there entirely into a new pot. The roots grow so quickly, it'll fill that one up within a season too.

As far as me being nice - lol! I'm a crotchety old man that is very opinionated and been around the block far too many times. One thing I don't mind doing however is helping others should they need it. Sometimes just letting people vent, and being a good listener is all it takes. I don't know if you were ever in the service, but if you were you'll understand - I've not only seen the elephant but I've ridden the damn thing on several occasions. this allows me to assist others.

The political divide, covid19, winter, job insecurity, caregiver status, NOT BEING ABLE TO PURCHASE HOYAS, and a slew of other things has people in a funk. Forums like this allow us to transcend and rise above all the petty things, and just receive enjoyment in sharing a common hobby. That's why I try to continually engage others on here as it not only helps them but it helps me too.

Seeing any kind of life in the midst of winter is always something to smile about. Gives me hope. The past few years have been dark, but I encountered someone special whom I never thought I'd find. The blooms, it seems, have gone off that rose. Unrequited love is one of life's greatest tragedies. Mental health has been an issue, as well. To be honest. I am hoping to find some answers whenever I meet my new doctor. I haven't been to a doctor since I was 16 or 17. With COVID, the lonely become even lonelier. Being a spiritual being, plants are an important part of my life, and they're nice company to have around, but they don't talk like you and I do. Yet, they're healing creatures.

Well, we're at the unopened umbrellas/parasols stage of buds. Should be happening any day now :). Taken earlier today when the Sun was out in all of his glory, albeit briefly. Hand was used for propping it up (and for size comparison).

The multi is so frustrating - it displays it's buds, starts to give us hope - then discovers something shiny and goes off looking at other things. Meanwhile, days, weeks go by and nothing seems to move. Suddenly one day when you check again it's open. They seems to hurry up then slow down dramatically just to annoy us!

Yours is looking really hopeful - soon you should have some nice blooms opening and nectar dripping. Give it a taste, it's very sweet. Become one with the plant! ;-)
