Help with kitchen remodel design

Hello, I am seeking help with kitchen design. Walls are 8ft, and I will have a vaulted ceiling, although it is a hipped roof and don't know what the height will be at the wall with cooktop (assuming 8 ft at this time). I have not used a kitchen designer yet, just have the architect plans. I plan to omit the "veg sink" counter to open up flow to patio, but widen the island to retain seating/gathering at that end. I plan on having a 36 inch cooktop, and 42 inch refreigerator. Center of vaulted ceiling is the dashed line through the sink.

Since the cooktop is left of the vault center anyway, I'd move it down m/l centered between the ovens and the end of the run, using a 42" hood. I'd also move the DW and sink down, to provide a nice prep area to the left of the sink (as you face it). Dishes can be kept in the cabinets across the aisle, which will make it easier for helpers to unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, without entering the prep and cooking zones.

Seating overhangs need to be 15" minimum, for comfort at counter height (see NKBA link below). The island's length and width have been adjusted--cooktop aisle would be ap 54", with the island the same depth. The fridge aisle has also been widened to ap 54". If you're using a standard-depth fridge, the counter to the right can be made deeper to match the fridge box. Make sure the door on the left will open fully against the pantry wall (red circle).

I am happy too see this thread is still alive. Like I said before if Joe were in my neck of the woods I would hire him. I am sure there are clients that are in his neck and will hire him to which he will be duly compensated for. I would consider this advertising. If myrenokitchen moves forward with this kitchen and the addition becomes a reality how do we know Joe will not be hired to provide drawings? I did not see him draw her plans that can be submitted to any building department. This is what I refer to as good faith, or good will, if you put it out there as Joe and many others here on Houzz have it will come back to them in spades it's just a universal truth. And I did notice that Mona has posted on over 1000 pro bono discussions. If all of the advice given here were to expect compensation there would be no forum, so we need to watch out that we are not too critical here in these threads because that type of thinking takes away our Freedom of expression!

I think I understand that you are flipping the cabinet section 45 degrees in the hope you will have a phone desk? That is a normal height cabinet, nowhere to sit at a desk. I am sorry, but it just looks wrong. If you want the cabinet to end 4" from the edge of the wall, use a smaller cabinet. Sometimes a designer will do whatever the customer indicates they want just to make the customer happy. If you want people to see a beautiful cabinet with glass and light - make it a full height - same as the pantry, but 12 - 15" deep with glass doors and lights so it becomes sort of a curio cabinet.

Good point about the fridge. I am getting a used counter depth one (GE Monogram). Is standard depth the current trend?

Hire a Kitchen Designer. The whole plan is not at all a used appliance type budget project. Not even close.

Mama Goose always does a great job! Food for thought.-My personal preference would be to keep the sink and stove top on the same side. I have always disliked pivoting with hot water to dump, especially as I age. Or maybe add a little prep sink to dump water in?

Mamagoose’s plan is good. I’ve nominated myself as a two dishwasher proponent. Put a dishwasher on each side of your sink.

I'll think about the prep sink on side with cooktop. Maybe fit a cutting board over it when not in use. I had one in previous kitchen layout, and it didn't get used much, but it was on the other side of the kitchen from the cooktop.

CD fridges seem to be the trend, but you lose some storage space you'd have with a full-depth fridge box. However, with a 42" CD fridge you might not miss the lost cold storage of a smaller FD model. If you're considering two sinks, my preference is clean-up on the perimeter and prep sink on the island. Pantry wall could be redesigned to house the ovens, too, for more space on the back wall for larger sink and DW. Can you add a window to the exterior wall?

Can't add window -- it will be hallway on otherside. My house is down to slab and some perimeter walls at this time, so I can make changes. However, the plumber already cut the slab for new pluming to the island. Adding plumbing to N wall is possible since there is no slab there yet, and they will be plumbing a bathroom.

Considering the whole space, what are thoughts about removing the wall with pantry and fridge. My personal constraint is my pool/billiards table on the SE corner of the space (right side area of main entrance, looking out). I have had concerns about the dining room being too small, but it would be a mostly unused formal dining room. Which I will likely make an office/library/study room while I own the house.

Should be OK if you don't need a pantry and fridge.

Would you be adding them to the back wall in the kitchen, or extend cabinets into the DR space?
