Lighting Design Dilemma Kitchens

Kitchen Plan Thoughts - Esp. Lights

So we are in the middle of a huge gut/remodel. We are doing recess lights in the kitchen dining with swing arm sconces over the open shelves. We have an odd open area due to the doorways to the living/bath/laundry/basement doors and slider. No upper cabinets. Any input is appreciated!

Are plates and glasses stored in that little cabinet beneath the small sink? When I empty the dishwasher do I carry the dishes there, bend over, and shove them all in that cabinet?

If I want to make a salad and pull the vegetables out of the refrigerator onto the island, where do I go to get a large bowl to put them in? If I chop up some vegetables and want to push some stuff into the (small) sink, isn't the faucet in the way?
