input/feedback bathroom

Hello,

We’re doing on addition , and this is the rough layout I have for our master bathroom ( 10x13) , I’m looking for feedback of layout...does it look balance? What do you guys think about the placement of tub, shower, toilet and vanity

Where is the door you will enter? I would want the mirrors over your sinks to show someone in the tub if the door opens

What is the 5 x5.5 area?

What wall are attached to your home

Entrance is next to the fireplace. The shower is the 5 x 5.

Will it be hard to reach the tub faucets? Is there enough space for the shower door to open wide enough?

We’re leaving 2.5” to allow the shower door open. I didn’t think about reaching the tub faucets, thank you

The tub surround will become dated fairly quickly - it looks like steps from the room into the tub. I would get rid of the shelves and, possibly, the fireplace and turn the tub so it is horizontal to the wall. It also looks as though you won't have much space between the current tub location and the sink. Maybe about 3 feet at the most? That won't be enough room for someone standing at the sink and another person trying to get past.

We want a jacuzzi tub and I don’t think the free standing ones are very practical. What’s the standard length? 5 feet? The room is 10 feet wide, I think we should have space

As drawn, the door into the room won’t open all the way. It will hit the end of your tub. That door must open completely. Even if people were willing to squeeze through, in the event that you need any work done at any time, you wouldn’t be able to fit materials, tools, etc. into the room.

At the very least, ditch the fireplace so you can turn the tub. You can’t even reach the faucets the way it is, and the door has to open fully to meet codes and practicality.

It looks like the shower door won’t open fully, either. And when you step out of the shower, where is your towel?

    Open shelves in a bathroom?

    Is there a window?

Looks really cramped. Lose the open shelves and rotate the tub.

A toilet in a closet with no sink will have the toilet-user using the doorknob without washing hands. Not sanitary. Either omit the door or omit the toilet closet. The tub in the first sketch is too big and protrudes too much. The shower is bigger than necessary, even for two people showering together. The second sketch moves the tub out of the way but still has the toilet w/o a sink. Drawer storage next to each sink is very important for all the small things you don’t want to have on the counter. Do plan your electrical outlets and put them on the sketch. Don’t forget an exhaust fan in the toilet area. Include a mirrored wall-mounted or recessed medicine cabinet for each sink. Where will your trash receptacle fit?One linen closet should be sufficient.

I think you need to draw a plan that's actually to scale, and include the thickness of all walls. Also include all of the dimensions. Is the room square? In your first drawing, one wall was 14 feet long and the opposite wall was 13 feet long.

In concept ....a fireplace the biggest “ extravagant” use of space and $...if i was spending that much time in the tub...i would want a t.v. 🥴...

Lina's drawing above makes the most sense, but I would plumb the tub and shower on the same wall. That way you can reach the faucets to turn them on without getting wet. I'd also loose the linen on both sides of the sink and do a long seamless vanity with 2 sinks. There would be plenty of storage under sinks and terrific drawer storage down the center. Probably one more shallow for makeup/toothpaste and 2 deep drawers for blowdryer, lotions and potions.

As nice as the concept of having a fireplace is in the bathroom the reality is that you'll use it once and find that the room will get so hot that you'll want a cold jacuzzi bath. I've had a fireplace and jacuzzi in the bathroom and IMO don't think it's worth the expense unless you've had one and like it. I reconsider that space. And I think for the size of your room your 6' vanity is on the short size especially with all the "extras" in your room. I don' think that size conveys as the rest of the space.

Keep one linen, add the 2' for an 8' vanity and that should give you plenty of storage. Get your plan drawn to scale and it will help you in your planning as on paper it always looks like you have a lot more space than you do. And if you can, blue tape it out a floor so you can get a visual of how the sizing of everything is.

And as someone else mentioned, think about where your towels will be hung.
