GE Cafe Range.

I have been looking to replace our gas range since we moved in seven years ago! Finally, in the middle of a global pandemic, our oven has died. Stores are closed here so I can’t compare models in person. I love the look of the GE cafe, but I’m curious to know if others are happy with their purchase? A couple more questions for the pros:

  • I currently have an enamel cooktop on my gas range. And the cafe has stainless steel. Is the upkeep easier on one? I hear stainless can scratch?
  • The white Cafe is gorgeous, but seems trendy. Will it stand the test of time? Or would I be better off just going stainless steel?
    Thanks!

Definitely get enameled. Stainless does scratch. I’ve had both and I thought enameled was hard to keep clean until I got stainless.

    Thank you Melanie!

Do you have white cabinets? Even in that photo the white appliances don't match the white cabinets, the appliances are so stark white.. and this photo is edited/filtered. Just a pet peeve of mine lol. Also I have the Cafe range, but it's electric and stainless. Gas may be 10x better but I do not like my electric one, one of my regrets with our reno.

I have the Matte Black induction, and it’s lovely. No problem with the finish. But as the poster above says, they are back ordered everywhere... be aware it may take several months to get.

As far as trendiness, I think the white will be just fine, but the gold/brass hardware isn't quite as timeless. Gold/brass has been popular for a few years now, so it probably only has a few years left is my guess. However, I'm not a psychic so I could certainly be wrong! I do think the current executions of gold and brass in brushed finishes look way more sophisticated than the cheap and shiny crap of the 90's, though.

    Thank you!
@itsourcasa we are planning to update the entire kitchen this summer and whit cabinets are the plan. I agree that I prefer when the cabinets match the appliances as closely as possible. I’m told the cafe are similar to SW Rock Candy, which has a distinct blue undertone. This has given me some pause. But I’ve seen it work in some kitchens where the cabinets and trim are ceiling white.
@gustaviatex I have also read that these appliances are on back order. That may be a dealbreaker! I can only survive on stovetop meals for so long, especially dura pandemic when eating out is not an option!
@markmartell how do you find the transition to induction? Did you have gas before?
@ryanB I love the white, but I also worry about the gold/brass trend. I hate the cheap 90s shiny version and hope the latest gold/brass never triggers such feelings in me again!

I have this range in stainless (gas version) and I love it. The stainless top is easier to keep clean than my old black enamel range was. However, the stainless DOES scratch. I don't mind this patina, but it is something to be aware of.

@wickedwhite I‘m adoring the induction... it’s fantastic. Just as responsive as gas (more so, really, as I have fine control even at the lowest setting), and lovely to cook on. Easy to clean, too. I grew up cooking on gas, and we had it at our old house, too.. When we moved to SC in 2019, the house had ‘regular’ electric. Which I’m not a fan of, but dealt with til we pulled the trigger on the new range. Super happy with the Cafe, and a total convert to induction.
