I keep mine close to the south wall of my house but not espaliered. wide but close to the house.

that's wonderful! i've never tasted lemons from one of those trees. i've never even see one. yum! we don't have that much space in our yard, though. here's a photo of the south-facing wall and the narrow planting area where the two trees will be espaliered. we need to keep the walkway open and easily accessible. the plant in the foreground is a dwarf sweet bay for cooking. it will stay where it is -- ultimately it will be about 6 feet high. the other plants are lomandra lime tuff. i'll have to move about 4 of them somewhere else in the garden.
