Inconsistent stain color

So the floor company who refinished my hardwood floor told me that they used the same color of stain on the front foyer ( test area) and the rest of the area, and they have no idea why they look different. The only diff was they lightly sanded the front foyer and stained it the day before. Any thoughts on what might happened? Thanks in advance!

The floors looks like it's been done at different times and one side looks like it has been water popped and the other was not. Is it the same color stain?

The floor company said they used exactly the same color stain, but I was not there so I have no idea. If they indeed used the same color stain, for whatever reason, it looks the stain failed to penetrate into the hardwood. Thanks

Causes for different stain colors:
1. Different stain color/brand used.
2. One area was water popped and the other not. Water popping will give you a darker color.
3. The sanding sequence is different. One side is sanded much smoother, which allows less stain penetration.

...and my personal favourite = DIFFERENT GUY! Yes. 'Different Guy' can change the look from one section to another. 'Different Guy' might have done his sanding differently. He might have failed to 'water pop'. He might have let the stain sit for more time or less time.

For me...this is not an acceptable difference. It is too much variation for me. You will need to have the big boss come in and have a look at it.

How many coats of finish does the floor have right now? If they are about to apply finish, tell them to stop until you can get the big boss out.
