you may need to fill this out a bit more to get good advice -- I can't really understand what's where or how you're trying to change it. but if you are planning anything across from that toilet, you're extremely unlikely to be able to renovate it to code -- be careful about opening that can of worms if you hope to sell someday!

This needs to be verified but I think the code says that you need at least 22" clearance in front of the toilet.

Without having a sense of the space, here are ideas.

If you researched costs and installation of these and then considered stripping, painting and adding new handles to yours, perhaps that will help with your decision. The doors could look brand new and then put the money towards nicer tile or lighting, etc which will have more impact.

Sorry, I'm not clear on where the doors are. But I think you mean they are an entrance to the half bath and you would like to replace that.

If so, then you could consider half doors on hinges and you could even have them swing outwards if clearance is an issue.
