Best options for covering uneven floor

What is the best option for covering an uneven floor? The previous owners had carpet of all things over this black and white tile. The tile is likely asbestos and beneath the tile is thick black (probably asbestos) adhesive over the old subfloor. Around the toilet is replaced, I assume there was a leak at some point. What's the best option for covering this that does not involve disturbing the asbestos tile, or are we just going to have to bite the bullet? It's only about a 5' x 5' space. My thought when buying this was ceramic or porcelain tile, but now that I saw what was beneath the carpet our only option is probably a self leveling compound and sheet vinyl or vinyl tile. As you can see, the tile isn't in the greatest condition and it's not the ideal smooth, flat surface. Am I just setting ourselves up for disaster if I cover? Pictures in comments.
