I believe they can abraid the surface slightly or CNC slight grooves.

Would love to see pics of your shower. Thinking about solid surface.

Lisa- the previous owner's didn't make the shower anything special. It's pretty much just a corner shower with whiteish shower walls, ceiling and flooring and an uninspiring chrome glass door. It's not going to get you excited to want to put it in. Believe me, love the Corian solid surface though as it is basically care-free (squeegee after every shower though) and I know with Corian's offering now that a nice shower with a bit more eye candy could be accomplished. I'm going to investigate Porcelain slabs with a tile floor, too. I need to do some research to determine if it will be as carefree as the Corian has been . And I know that not all fabricators are working with it yet. Of course, anything with less grout is a good thing right out the gate.

but they do have Corian mosaic tile. could you use that for the floor?

why not go w/a larger format, porcelain, matte tile?

Thanks. I wasn't aware that they had mosaic tile. Though what I want to get away from is the grout if I can. Do you know anything about the porcelain slabs and how they hold up in a shower?

how about the XL porcelain tiles? they make matching mosaic for the shower floor. I know Tilebar has 24x48, and even a 60x120" sizes. have you seen those? you'd only need 4-8 'tiles' to do an entire shower.

of course you need in expert tile setter for these, but they'd hold up great.

Once I get the design done I'll keep in mind the 60 x 120 as that might give me more options than the slab. I was talking to a fabricator & installer today and they've done a few porcelain slab shower installs and then I talked to the clients designer and she said that they were very happy with the product and its performance. The designer said they were starting to recommend to their clients the slab as an alternative to tile for the shower. But I'm still checking it out. Thanks again.

Thanks Loobab and Joe. Though Joe, I hope the research on coefficient of friction doesn't mean a lot of science as you'll loose me there-lol. All I know is I have a partner that has slipped a few times on the Corian floor and if I want to go that way I need to come up with a solution as he never did on our tiled floored showers. Though cleaning the floor on a more often basis does help.
