Hosta R 2020 ...........

Great Sunday everyone. Lets see some Rs today

In England, it is not uncommon to see "wavy" brick fences. Interestingly, the design uses fewer bricks than a straight fence. A straight fence that is just one brick thick is not sturdy enough to stand alone & can be easily toppled, so they generally have a thickness of at least two or more layers of bricks, & are also reinforced at regular intervals with vertical posts serving as buttresses. But a wavy "one-brick" fence stands just fine on its own due to the arch support provided by its shape, which combines both fence & buttress. Such a structure is called a "crinkle crankle wall" "the Old English version of "zig zag."

I think Royal Standard was my first hosta. It has world domination intentions! Also have Rainforest Sunrise. But Regal Splendor is the one that caught my eye last summer. I had rescued it from a dark corner where it couldn’t be seen, and relocated to this spot.

Windymess, I can hardly believe the size of that Rhino Hide......I bought one, small tho it was, it just got smaller and smaller until it, poofed - disappeared. Yours is gorgeous!!

beth—you are a true hosta-holic..... seeing the potential of the wall by how great hosta planting would make it......haha.......you are the only other person that’s posted Robert Frost.RoRoyal Tiara is on my list.

sunnywood—-I love that Rich Uncle! Oh the color!!

hosta_maker, I like the soft color of Rumbled Hat.

    A few R's of mine

    Rainbow's End

    Regal Splendor

    Remember Me

Revolution - Trying to make a come back after the rabbits destroyed it.

    Risky Business

Raspberry Sundae - Badly tattered leaves so just the pretty legs.

Might as well start with Rainbow's End. Seems like a popular one. Can't imagine why.

I'm missing a lot of my R Hostas. So here is Red Hot Flash cropped out of a larger photo. Planted in 2019.

Another missing one so Raspberry Sundae from 2019.

Reptilian is a good grower for me. Planted in 2018.

Rip Tide - another good grower planted in 2018.

Rowan My Boat planted in late 2019.

Roy Klehm - yes another one planted in 2019.

Royal Tiara planted in 2019. So many that really just need another year or two.

Ruffed Up - Hey one planted in 2018!

And finally, planted in 2019 Ruffles n Ridges and Rascal. Will definitely get better pics this year.

I've got Roy Klehm, Rain Forest Sunrise, Rainbow's End,

Remember Me, Ruffed Up, a couple of Rhino Hides--one is almost dead and the other is a slow grower, Red Stepper, Rosedale Spoons--got it years ago from some guys in Michigan who grew hostas and Japanese Irises I will have to try and find it since it was planted in a bed that is overrun by hellebores

I've never seen a brick wall like that and never would have thought it could use less bricks than a straight wall. Very interesting.

So many nice looking Remember Me hostas. Mine shrunk away to nothing.

peren.all/Laurie, nice to see a bigger Riviera Sunset because that's a new one for me. Your Regal Splendor is HUGE!

hosta maker, I don't know how you come up with all those names for your new hostas.

Liking all the Rainbow's Ends, and Risky Business is also a favorite of mine.

Rare Breed, leaves are a bit tattered, but the markings/coloring on this one look promising to me.

Regal Splendor, another big one that I moved. Here it is taped up in fall of 2019.....

2020. So happy it didn't mind the move and came back strong.

Riviera Sunset, a new one for me....

WOW loving all the Remember Me, Rhino Hide, Robert Frost & Royal Tiara.

windymess double WOW on your RH. How long have you had it? I have always admired the subtle colours of Rascal.

Beth Rockets Red Glare has gorgeous legs!

    hosta_maker Rumpled Hat is terrific.

north53 So glad you got your RS moved, it looks like it has been there the whole time.

shadow your plants always look so darn happy! I am sure when you do get Rainbow's End it will settle right in. Every single one here is flawless. Such a great plant.

oursteelers hope this is the leap year! Hope you left plenty of room for it.

mbug what can I say - gush, gush & more accolades! Love that Ripple Effect.

    Sherry what a perfect specimen!

nw you should be proud of yourself! You did get a lot more pics this year. RS seems quite happy in the big pot!

Debra great shots of Royal Wedding. Your Revolution is doing so well! I ripped mine apart this year because even after twisting out reversions it still kept wanting to put out green. Gee maybe if I watered it once in a while it would be more stable lol.

Mae no wonder we love Rainbow's End!

old_dirt tattered leaves or not Raspberry Sundae is a stunning combo of leaf & leg.

Steve you always have so many new ones I have to look up! I especially like Ruffles n Ridges.

miles I hope you take some pics to share with us next year!

sandyslopes I am liking Rare Breed! Regal Splendor was obviously oblivious to it's move lol! Hope you are done moving big ones, it is such a back twinging job. It will be fun to see our freshly planted Riviera Sunset(s) take off. I think we are going to really like this one.

    Love the crinkle crankle wall!

Love the Rhino Hides Betsy and Windymess. I had one and really liked it, but then it disappeared. It seemed to like more sun than usual for a blue---at least that is what I thought.

This photo was taken in 2016

After seeing yours, and going back and reviewing my pictures, I think I want to try again to grow this one!

Love everyone's Remember Me's. I, too, lost mine. Seems like a bit of a tricky one to grow. I don't think I'll attempt it again (not unless someone let's me know "the secret" to growing it)!

    Radiant Edger in June

Radiant Edger in September. The grass beside is beginning to look a bit tired but not Radiant Edger!

Recovering from being moved from an area with poor drainage.

Rainbow's End still doing well in September.

Raspberry Sundae 7/4/2018 right after purchase. Wonderful plant! I divided this is 2019, and it didn't mind at all.

Raspberry Sundae and Rainforest Sunrise. I have discovered that Raspberry Sundae really does best in part-shade instead of this part-sun to full-sun location.

    A few "R" s

Have 3 Rainbow's End. On south & west, getting a lot of afternoon sun, growing well but quite light color.

    Reversed Patriot in early June

Reversed Patriot end of September. Different plant but same location.. Lots of light but no full sun.

Raspberry Sundae. Newly planted on west side, may need to relocate if sun is too much.

Rainforest Sunrise. Newly planted, looking pretty sad end of September

I got behind... had a couple of busy days.

I love all of these R's... especially the pics of Rainbow's End blooming! Last summer I got mine out of the pot and into the ground... can't wait to see it this year.

Thanks for the compliments on my Rhino Hide! I bought it in 2015 and planted it in a spot that was more sunny, because I'd read that it could take a bit of sun. But it wasn't really growing, and I think it actually declined one year (it may have really been a water issue). So after I created a new, shadier bed in a more moist/fertile area of the yard, I moved it there and it really thanked me! Last summer was so busy that I didn't get around to counting RH's pips or measuring it, but according to my spreadsheet it was 20 inches across in 2019... and I know it was larger last summer. Looking forward to seeing that one again this year... it's one of my favorites!
