Tamara, if I had built the house myself that's probably what I would have done. But you know... not always we have the luxury of deigning our own home. Some, like myself, just buy what they can afford and try to make it look as good as possible ;)

laluna, I know how much you were looking forward to shopping and hate that it does not work! That happens to me a LOT, too!

I do not know why plants have to cost so much, but they sure do! I am happy you did not buy one just because it was on the list. Have you looked in any catalogs for curtains that would be the right size? I know it is better to buy in a store and bring home right away, but if the sizes are difficult, that might be an option.

BUT you still got to come home to a great room!!!

I am not sure about the size now. My ceiling is 2700 high and the curtains I got were 230 drop. When I hang it was almost the same length as the current panels so I guessed there was no point in changing if the goal is to put it higher so the ceiling looks higher right? Problem is there aren't made curtains longer than 250. Is this a standard length? I might need to have it made then.

Exciting Windows! by Stacey Hudson You need color and I would go for a large print...maybe geometric to bring out the contemporary side. I would do grommets or flat top panels hanging from rings. The top of the panels should be around 1/2 the distance between the top of the door and the ceiling...with the hardware above that, you will have added much needed height to your space. Also, I would mount the rod 12 inches beyond each side of the doors for stacking the drapery/ You might also consider panels with a horizontal contrasting band either at the top 1/3 or the bottom 1/3. Love the artwork...use that for inspiration!

OK, if she suggested flat top panels hanging from rings, it seems to me like you could buy fabric. The fabric would be the flat top mentioned and each side of it is finished. You would just need to do a hem....and those can be done by hand or you can buy fabric tape and iron it on . The rings are easy to buy and a good price, too. You would just need to find enough of the fabric you choose and then do the math to figure out how much to buy. Part of how much you buy will depend on the width of the fabric you choose. Do you have a fabric store? SOMETIMES it is cheaper to go with fabric and other times, no.

Hi Again! I am chiming in about the curtains, since that is my specialty. Can you buy the gray/white ones in the pictures, way above, and buy one red panel? Then you can cut the red one in half, horizontally and add it to the bottom? Think outside the box...if you can sew a straight stitch, you can do this! Or, you could buy 2 red panels and if they have grommets, you can cut what you need to add to the top of the gray panesl and that will give you color at the top...which will bring the eye up! and the red up and the finished length you need! Looks great so far!

First take down gray curtains, your color scheme needs work , red and grey very cool but you need some warmth all art work is too high, your art is beautiful however not all of it goes well in that room think groupings in small doses.odd number of pictures need balance by spacing them if you are grouping them on one wall . I will try to find some photos and send later.

Hi designer, I am looking at some curtains now. I am thinking of a combination of red and white (two separate sets put together). Re the artwork height, which one are talking about? If I go any lower on the one near the console it will be close to its edge. Is this how it should be?When you say 'not all of it goes with that room, which one specifically you are referring to? I am looking for other black frames to balance out the pictures grouping :)

I like that a LOT! Look how pretty the wood is with your floor! And those chairs.....perfect!!! Can you scoot it in the room just a bit more? I know you are afraid of blocking the door, but do not shove it in the corner.

What if you were to angle it a bit.......put the stool closest to the kitchen door at the edge of that black rug and then angle it side ways kind of .

Just make sure you can get EASILY back in to the corner stool area with out a struggle.....or angle it the other way.....again, I cannot tell how far in to the room /doorway it will go.

I found this fabric and my friend is making the curtains. Isn't done yet. It will be higher , closer to the ceiling. Will put another pic when is all done.

What a difference that fabric will make. The pattern has movement, colors really coordinate well with your furniture and kind of wake up those window walls. Like the room is smiling now! Great choice.

I love everything about this fabric! WOW! You totally found a winner here. LOVE the sheen there and cannot wait to see them done. Bet you feel the same way. NICE friend to do this for you.

Thanks guys. It has been a challenge this one. For starters the fabric isn't appropriate for curtains and when put against the glass the door doesn't look nice during the day ( the sun lights goes through the pattern making it dull) we went shopping yesterday to buy the fabric to cover the back but they were sooooo expensive but we were very lucky and someone had just returned 6 packs of already made brown curtains. All we had to do was to sew the fabric on top of the brown. Perfect! Well almost. It is still letting some light through the pattern but not as bad:) - and I don't really need light blocking in that room because it is already a bit dark. Abby I missed being here too... :) will be back with more pics next week!

Has to feel sooooo good to have those windows DONE and to look that nice! I would maybe take off the green seat cushions on the table now since no green right there. Try the round basket you have by the bench by the door under the black console table in front of the outlet.

For the wall that you don't think looks quite right...I like the container on the right but wonder if you could use similar on the left of the table. Fill the bottom of the jar with newspaper and get those sticks up higher. You seem to need height to flll in the empty wall space to the left and right of the picture. Do you have a Hobby Lobby in your town? Maybe you could find something solid to put on the wall ...doesn't need to be big but maybe more long (vertically). The picture I am sending is just an idea not the exact look but how wonderful to reflect something beautiful going on in the room.

I saw this cute mirror decoration at hobby lobby and was like 4 vertical tear drops and each teardrop had a small mirror. It was about 4 feet long by 6 inches wide.

I really like the sticks...I just think you need another set to the left of the table and then have them stuffed to make the sticks taller! Something else on the wall may be too much. So, more sticks is my vote.

I am just afraid of adding too much to make it look busy instead. AND it will distract from the art you have. I looked again at the pics you sent and I like the clean lines there. Try putting the newspaper in the bottom and having the sticks taller and see if that feels right instead of more on the walls.

The first thing that I would do is take down those black curtains. They are way too dark, and make your room look very stark. I think that white sheer curtains would be a lot easier to live with. Your furniture placement looks good, but I would replace the white entertainment cabinet and black console table with wood ones. This would give the room a warmer, more comfortable feel. Definitely lose the black stools. If you want the extra seating try some poufs or small ottomans to fit under the console table. Warm up the red sofas with some large muted pillows and a throw.
