I need climate-specific info for very hot, very humid area.

I can tell you we're in Southern CA and have grown Orange Jessamine for years at two different properties. It is, hands down, one of my favorites due to the LUSH green foliage. The fragrant white blooms are nice, but it's the leaves I love the most. Sorry, we've never let it get taller than about 6 feet. We kept it trimmed back, but there's no doubt it would have gotten much taller. You mentioned very hot and humid. Are you in Central CA? If so, I would check with a reputable local nursery there.

Yes, I'm in Israel. For me, too, the appeal is in the leaves. The flowers are a lovely bonus - especially the fragrance - but I'd have loved this shrub just as much had it never flowered.

When I still had my Poinciana the flowers were actually a nuisance every spring. A neighbour once told me she'd wait each spring for my tree to bloom. Little did she know I couldn't wait for that vast tide of tacky red to be over so I could enjoy the foliage. I used to spend hours just watching those leaves dance in the breeze.

Sorry, wintercat. You did mention Mediterranean. Guess my brain was stuck in CA. I agree with loving the shrubs even w/o blooms. Such a pretty green. Kind of a lacy appearance, too.
