1950s Bathroom Help

looking to do some "updates" to our 1950s bathroom. Ultimately will redo, but currently want to do a modern/dramtic twist incorporating new in with the old/retro. The burgandy tile will remain for now. The floor will be tiled over with some type of patterned tile (maybe black/white). The tile there now is very dingy and nothing seems to clean it. A new vanity will be installed (narrower depth) and maybe medicine cabinet/mirror. My question, I want to do a type of unique and possibly risqué type wallpaper on the upper walls. Would that be too busy? Also, do I go dark or keep lighter and what colors? I am looking to make a fun statement. I've included a few ideas on wallpaper so you can swe where my mind is. Thank you

Cool. Imo I’d redo the wall tiles before the floor. The floor is a classic timeless tile. Not bad at all. Regarding the wallpaper. I’d do a black and white one if you keep the tiles. If you redo them I’d probably look for something with blues. Blue would look amazing with the floor tiles you already have.

    What an awesome bathroom.

I think any of your wallpaper choices would work great. What do you think about doing a retro vanity? Or do you already have a new one picked out?

ETA: Derp, I need more coffee ... disregard my vanity idea, I wasn’t thinking about the wall behind.

Playing around ... obviously, the patterns aren’t to scale here, just showing general ideas with the colors and such. It might help with what direction you want to go.

I’m not loving either of these (but it’s your bathroom, not mine!) ...

Don't get rid of the burgundy. It's classic and classy, and nothing beats tile in a bathroom for fighting mildew and being easy to clean/disinfect. It would look stunning with the wallpaper. I wouldn't put something risque in a guest bathroom if I had a lot of guests, especially with kids. But if I was not worried about it being PG for my guests, then a bathroom is the perfect place to put some fun wallpaper!

I love the tile - both the floor and the wall tile. If it's in good shape, I'd definitely keep it. Your wallpaper choices are fun!

appreciate all the comments. still deciding on what wallpaper. going to save the tile, floor tile is super dingy but hope to be able to clean it up. Jinx, thank you for showing the wall papers. super helpful. does anyone have color combo ideas with keeping the burgandy? thank you again

Wallpaper is the way to go and I love your humor. No guest will know unless they look close. Have had a few OP's here with similar bathrooms and they have wallpapered them with great success to making them look more modern. I agree with Jinx on the last 2 that she photoshopped that they aren't doing much for the room. You may need to look a bit more as I think when you see it you'll know it. And good luck with the floor. Post photos when you have the room completed :)

Would have to have make sure the scale is right and monitors can distort the colors. Still looking for risque but in the mean time...
