I went to Home Depot and purchased the 19 and 37 watt led tubes. I use them for supplemental lighting and the plants seem to react very well to them. I have an odorata, which is probably too close to the tubes, but the leaves have turned bronze. For my purposes, these lights are inexpensive, economical to operate and do the job. Can't ask for anything more.

I have also heard great things about Barrina LED T5 Lights. I just ordered some. 😊

Great - let us know how they work out for you. Mine are relatively "weak" as i didn't have a large area to light up and was only supplying supplemental lighting. I'd be curious to know how those T5s work out. I understand they're fairly powerful. Send us a pic if you get a chance once they're unboxed and again when set up.

I have four different kinds:

1) Sunblaster strip lights. https://www.sunblasterlighting.com/our-products/grow-lighting/led-strip-lights/

They are not super high powered but they work great in areas where the plants can be relatively close to the light. I love that I was able to fit one under my kitchen counter.

I also added two of these same strip lights to my Ikea vittsjo plant shelves.

2) Grow lightbulbs from Home Depot that can be put in any light fixture. I use them in some of those cheap clip lights like one might see for dorm use. Bought mine at thrift store for like $2.

3) A grow floorlamp from Amazon. Kinda pricey but works well and I think it looks ok.

4) Recently purchased an inexpensive three-way lamp at Walmart. I added one of the Feit bulbs and two Sansi bulbs. The Sansi bulbs are awesome! They put out a lot of light and fit into standard light fixture.

I watched some videos about the Sansi bulbs before I bought them.

I will be purchasing another light for my plant shelf soon. I'm looking at this one:

Popmama - the feit light you sent a link to is what I use. I have both the 19 and the 37 watt varieties. I've chained them to the underside of a wire shelf. Since they are for supplemental lighting, they seem to work well. I have an odorata that one of the people on here gifted me, and because it's a little too close to the light, the upper leaves turn bronze, so it's getting sufficient lighting I'm sure. In fact, I just moved it further away this morning since it's growing so well I don't want to damage it with too much light.

The feit lights are relatively inexpensive, come with a couple years warranty and are very economical to operate. What's not to like. The light stream is also directed downward, so the entire room isn't lit, just the plants.

I have both wattages of the feit lights. I really like that they don’t get hot. On my wire shelf they always seemed too close and sun stressed the plants a lot. But, I think they are great, especially for the price and ability to just be able to go buy them.

I have also used two of the 19 watt ones in a 4x4 grow tent with no other light. I kept them on 14 hours and my Hoya Callistophylla bloomed under them.

Now I really like the Spider Farmer 2000 for the grow tent, dimmed down a bit. I see a lot less sun stressing extremes with this setup. And the Hoya bloom a lot. I keep it near the top with ones that like higher light on the higher metal shelves. The ones that like less light on the bottom and they even get sufficient light to bloom. Also on for 14 hours. Although, it does get hot on the top of the light. It warms the tent nicely.

Concerning the tent, how do you exhaust the air? Doesn't it get extremely humid in there? Do you exchange the air?

Bill, I do not use a fan or exhaust. I open it mostly daily to check on them. The 24 hour humidity was 56-85 and temp was 77-84.2. This is my third time trying to submit a comment so excuse me if there are 3 comments🤪

When you mentioned a grow tent, I envisioned the all black on the outside with silver reflectors inside. Similar to the ones I've seen on YouTube for Doug chamberlain etc. I always wondered how they vented them as the temps would skyrocket when they're closed, plus one doesn't get to enjoy the plants unless viewing inside.

Yours is different. I like that type. Mind saying where you purchased it? It looks like a great investment.

Bill, mine is all black and silver inside. It’s a Spider Farmer 4x4x 72? or so from Amazon. I open it a lot so I can see them. But my SF 2000 light doesn’t raise the temp too much. Its just that it’s in a spare room where my air conditioner doesn’t cool it well.

You’re welcome. An LED light like mine has a few IR LED in it, which I suspect helps blooming. It does not give off too high of a heat to raise temps more than a few degrees. Most of my hoya have not been in real light since I aquired them. I’ve had the tent since November. In hot humid summer, they seem to need to be watered less. A fan would’ve been ideal during our hottest most humid days. A chunky medium is especially important when it’s the hottest humid days of my summer. Any that are in a nursery peat soil would not dry out fast enough. I use Foxfarm Ocean, charcoal, bark, and perlite, pretty chunky. Some arrived in pon or coconut chunks, one lecca, and do well. I dislike them being out of sight. I’m hoping to grow them bigger and eventually only keep cuttings and warm humid lovers in there. I really would like to see them all over my house instead. Any doubles are out in the regular house.

I have also had good growing experiences on a shelf with the feit lights (14 hours on) and a humidifier directly near them on all the time..

I started the tent in my basement where it is consistantly warmer than the rest of my house in winter. It was probably 77 degrees in there. I like a comfortable 74 degrees for my house. I had to move it upstars because my daughter wanted the basement room. I really hope the spare room will keep my tent warm enough.

My new Undulata dropped a new leaf from shipping, but grew this new leaf on a top shelf in the tent. It is kept shaded behind a large carnosa. I think it likes the tent so far even though it’s not 90 degrees. Although, I have a heat mat ready just in case.
