Cabinets - Kraftmaid vs Conestoga RTA

We are getting ready to finish our basement and will be putting in a bar area. We entertain quite often. As nice as we would like to make the space, we do not have an unlimited budget so we are shopping around for cabinets. We are waiting for a design and quote from a local cabinet shop using Kraftmaid cabinets. In the meantime, I was going to get a design and quote from The Cabinet Joint on some RTA cabinets.

Just looking to see if anyone has any advice on the quality differences between the 2 and any guesses on which route will be the most affordable. We will most likely be going with a stained hard maple cabinet.

Sounds like a fun project😁 FYI, maple doesn't stain well, especially if you are using RTA and DIYing it. Have no idea about Kraftmaid, we used The Cabinet joint and loved it. I painted them, better than our local guy.

Just make sure that the Conestoga manufacturer is not using some cheap Chinese plywood to make their RTA cabinets. Some of the crap that they send to the USA cant be used in China, but for some reason, we allow it to be imported to us.

We have really nice quality amish built cabinets in our kitchen and master bathroom that our maple. When we redid the bathrooms upstairs we replaced all 3 vanities with Kraftmaid and they look great and are perfect for those spaces.

So for this basement, I completely agree that we are not looking to "upstage" our kitchen. However, we have an open stairwell to the basement and full windows so my goal is for this to feel like a continuation of our first floor and not so "basementy."

My husband is incredibly handy and capable of assembling the cabinets himself, however, if the quality and price are going to be comparable between the two choices, then we may as well go with Kraftmaid and just skip this step.

So that is more my question. Are there significant quality differences between the 2 brands?

These cabinets will be used primarily to store entertaining pieces, i.e. barware, chafing dishes, family Christmas dishes, etc.

We installed a Kitchen/Bar in our basement utilizing cabinets from IKEA. Have been very pleased. Because it’s a basement, Rather than using their legs, I set pressure treated 2x4’s on edge then plywood atop to rest the cabinet boxes.
