Get a runner....and leave a bit of floor between the door and the runner.

Measure room opening to room opening and from the door to bottom stair. Subtract at least 6" all around to an approximate size. Then I would remove the 2 pieces on the sides of the door

Yes I was thinking I need to remove them. The doors just feel a little overpowering with nothing there. Maybe a tree in place of the cabinet ?

It looks tight with the cabinet. A potted tree might be nice.

I disagree with a runner. When you enter the home you need something right there. Move tie cabinet and replace with plant, get larger rug bigger than frame of door.

You could get a bigger rug and just do a smaller mat in front of door

I agree with getting a rug just a bit wider than the doors. I think a brass and glass accent table beside the doors would look so pretty in place of your current one. They’d repeat the lovely gold fixtures and be a nice balance with the bigger, heavier entry table across the room.

(First is on Overstock, second on Ballard Designs ... but a true vintage one would be great, too.)
