primary bedroom refresh - need help, lots of it

Hi, I’m refreshing my primary/master bedroom. It’s on the second floor, southern facing. It’s currently about as yellow and dingy as it could be. On to a modern, rustic, transitional look. I plan to remove the W2W carpeting (flooring photo inserted), painting walls, and replacing most of the furniture; I’m going to upholster the headboard with a light fabric (samples in the mail). We want the room to feel fresh, calming, and cozy. Two things I can’t do: 1) paint it all white (just did in two rooms and love), 2) do anything with the natural red brick (no whitewashing, no paint...) I found a dresser I fell in love with from Anthropologie w/inlay (see photo). Will it work? Never had a dresser before. Placement in the room is limited. Note, the rectangular hole in the wall near the FP is for the AC unit; okay to cover up. Was thinking my dresser will go next to FP and his chest will go between window. No idea for color of furniture. Thx for your ideas and help.

Bedding should be your first choice. There are millions of paint colors so that is last. I would want a comfy chair near the FP. Love the dresser. But don't like it with that floor. What is the flooring in the rest of the house? All flooring should match. Personally I would go with a flooring that is more one color. I feel floors like you have chosen are too busy and distracting. The floor is a backdrop not the star of a room so subtle is better.

I agree - that floor is very rustic and busy looking. It does not go with the dresser, which is much more "dressy".

Thanks for the feedback. Agreed the dresser is a bit “dressy”. Here is another photo of the floor. I was a bit surprised to read it’s busy and distracting; maybe the close up got too much. It’s definitely more of a rustic feel than a traditional oak (which we have downstairs), but tends to blend in quite well. I have some work to do for sure; thx again.

Will there be any rugs on the floor; if so how big?

Traditional with an area rug/or broadloom cut to fit.

The master is a place where you want a beautiful soothing color - whatever makes you happy. I'd start with finding your furniture though. You can look for neutral stained wood, or painted pieces, or a combination. After that, choose your bed upholstery, rug, bedding, and wall color. You can stick with light neutrals, or choose a color you love.
