Ideally you'd want something subtle in the lawn area for driving (but not parking) around a car in the drive. You sure don't want cars parked in front of the house.

I think something like this would be doable on your property. And a Fori stated above, you don';t actually have to park in front of the house but use the widened driveway to drive around the car behind it and out to the road.

What an adorable house....when my daughter was stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital she. lived in a neighborhood of homes like yours. Walk to the metro and be in D.C in 10 minutes. Love!

I was going to suggest you make a smaller driveway to the left of your property, but the town may not give you a permit to cut the curb.

One idea comes to mind because we are installing A Dupont product which looks just like grass around our pool. It is a fabulous product and it drains quickly. You could replace half of the front yard with it and use it for parking.

You could design a front yard parking pad using Belgian blocks. (the lighter).

There is not enough room for a car to drive around another car parked on the driveway. Grass block pavers is what you need. Make a grass block parking space left of the drive, parallel to the house, a left turn in. You will be able to back out of this parking space onto the drive and exit going forward.

Working off the tree ring create a narrow bed along the street side of the grass block parking space if you want to screen it some.

That will have less impact on resale and people will just have to enjoy your curb appeal when you are not parked there.

I definitely think doing the pavers that have grass spread between them will look better than straight concrete though!

A parking space parallel to the house with a planting bed street side will use less space in the lawn than a space parallel to the drive, be better for exiting to the street going forward, be easier to screen, be easier to incorporate into a sense of a grand or 'courtyard' type front entry and a bit less damaging to the tree. You can park on the street when you have company or put the house on the market.

If there is room for a turn-out after the gate, and between the house and garage, that might be ideal.

If you have additional width available adjacent to the existing drive, you could consider adding a complimentary paving material on both sides of the drive to allow for maneuvering.
