Adding a bedroom

I have 2 large bedrooms and I'm looking for ideas of how I can create a 3rd bedroom in the middle since the rooms are so large. I took interior measurents and the space is roughly 14' × 38'. Each room has 2 windows and a long closet that is 2.5'× 11.10. I tried creating a sketch, which I have no experience doing, but wanted to give a visual of the space. I live in a tri level and the landing space is limited. I think there is space to add the bedroom but I'm confused how to configure the doorways into the rooms and the closet spaces. I would appreciate any help. I have a teen girl who desperately needs her own space and im trying to find a way to work within our space. My husband doesn't think it will work, but it would function better for our family if we could somehow figure this out.

Is the closet wall load bearing?

And , I can’t tell from your sketch what the hallway situation is like. Can a third doorway from the hallway be added?

No, the closet wall is not load bearing. The hallway doesnt have room for another doorway to be added. We would have to find a way to use the existing doorways, and the existing closet would go away to make room for the new bedroom. I realize that my sketch is not professional and I tried to do the best i could. I'll try to add more pictures to better explain. I'm just looking for ideas on ways that closets are usually added with rooms that side each other and possible solutions to create a doorway. Since the landing is limited.

Does any of these bedrooms need to be larger than the other two?

To access all 3 rooms, you'd need to carve out a little extra hallway from the rooms. It might work something like this:

It does seem feasible. And not crazy at all.

Thanks for all of the input. The bedroom to the right is our master bedroom, so I would like to keep it larger, but we have 3 kids so our house would function better with everyone having their own room. Another issue is that we would be putting the new room where the closets are currently, so I'm not sure how to replace the closets. Thanks for adding the floorplan. That helps a lot.

You might not be able to decide upon the closets until you decide where the beds would go.

Here's a layout with furnishing and closets. It needs windows. You may find that you need to add a window to the house for the new bedroom to have any. This may look odd from the outside.

This helps a lot. The current bedrooms have 2 windows each. I'm thinking the master would lose one of the windows to the new bedroom. I tried putting them on my sketch but they are hard to see. I would like to keep the master, the room on the right, a little larger of possible.

Since you have 38' in length, decide how big you want the master to be and how much closet it needs to have. Then we can figure out how to make 2 rooms out of the rest.

Does the master have access to that bathroom? And is that another bedroom below the left bedroom? Wondering if it’s possible to bump into that room for a closet.

We actually have a master bathroom that is behind the bathroom that you can see in the picture, and there is another bedroom in front of the bedroom on the left. I was hoping to leave those areas as they are but we really need to find a way to add another bedroom. I will try to update the sketch to include the baths and other bedroom.

Get some graph paper and draw the entire house plan to scale showing room sizes, doors and windows. Include the sizes of the existing beds and the height of window sills.
