Yes. You need to get a spray paint specifically for the inside of the fireplace that can withstand the heat. There are several different brands. This one is from Krylon.

I painted mine with Rust-oleum.

I have had better long term results on other projects using Rust-Oleum vs Kylon brand paints.

I used Rust-oleum for years, then moved and the closest store to me carried only Kylon. I used it on 5 or 6 projects the first year I moved in. 1 year later I had chips and dings and issues. I re-painted everything that I had used Kylon on with Rust-oleum and have not had to repaint anything since (been here 4 years now).

I only used Rust-oleum in the high heat.
