I think it was 4 degrees one night in October, but a pretty mild winter overall since. Dry too, unfortunately. We've been between -1 and 3 degrees last night and the night before. NOAA is predicting a high of 9 today, -7 tonight. Tomorrow it's a high of 3 with an overnight of -13.

I've been here long enough to remember a stretch of 7-10 days at 0 or below at night most winters, that was normal then. We haven't really had that the last decade. As much as I hate it, this stretch makes things feel more normal. We may get above freezing by Thursday.

Yes it seems we no longer get those long stretches of weather hovering around 0 F for around 10 days at a time. The first 30 years I lived in Colorado it was pretty much expected to get like that and probably once again in the same cold season. The last decade most of the larger lakes in the metro area don't even entirely freeze over. The last few weeks I've seen a fair amount of wasps and other flying insects around which is way early.

It was 10°f one morning. No temperatures above freezing for about a week. The coldest winter mornings were last week since late October when it was 15°.

The winter of 2019-20 was the warmest I can remember since I moved here in the late 60's. I wasn't here every winter but nearly. To have a winter without below zero weather is very unusual. A winter without single digitS' seems phantasmagorical ... (I've never used that word before, for sure! Somehow, it seems right ;o).

The snowpack is okay. On the other side of the mountains, Montana is in a deep freeze.

I was down to -1º on Friday night and -6º SA nite—was all the way up to +6º today/SU, and am supposed to get down to -19º tonite—it's at -9º right now at a little after 10:00 pm! [Barb, NOAA is now predicting -20º for you overnite tonite!]

I made a huge batch of chicken noodle soup a couple days ago and put it all in half-gallon containers today—have it sitting out in my garage right now to freeze over night and I’ll carry it down to my freezer in the basement tomorrow—after it’s already frozen solid! It’s 20º in the garage right now—and it won’t be getting any warmer out there for a while!

I’m hoping, either this month yet, or in March if not now, that we get a 3’ blizzard! Seems a long time since we’ve really gotten DUMPED ON! Easy for me to say! I don’t need to leave the house for anything at all! For those of you young’uns that still work, sorry, but I’m still hoping to get buried in snow at least once this winter! Yeah, we sure do need the moisture, but as much as anything I’m hoping for it because it makes the world Soft, and Quiet, and Serene—and I could use some of all of that right now!

And, I second Digit! WASPS??? I don’t remember seeing an insect around here of any size, shape, or description for three or four months now! Way early, indeed, Greg!

Elevation does funny things in regards to arctic air. Cheyenne, WY (and the rest of the front range) has been frigid going on a week while Laramie, Wy, just 40 miles west has been 20-30 degrees warmer when it’s usually 5 degrees cooler. Laramie is separated by a low mountain range. The heavy arctic air could not get over that low mountain range I guess. It finally did the past couple days, but will retreat a day or two earlier. It got to -14 at my house Saturday night/Sunday morning. So not that bad for here
