kitchen/addition help!!

Hello! We have been trying to get started on a home reno to put an addition on and open up our space to achieve a open family room/kitchen/eat in area. We have some plans but have run into issues with space and awkward angles in the kitchen so now we are toying with the idea of changing the “proposed extended family room” into the kitchen. We want to keep the same dimensions for the appliances and the island. Any suggestions/opinions are welcome and greatly appreciated! We know it will change the cost being that we will need to move gas/plumbing but we will take out the additional French doors and have wiggle room with windows. We just really would like to find an option that maximizes our space:)
Thanks!

These are the appliance and island dimensions

Do you need both access points to the kitchen, one near the bath and the other at the bottom of the stairs?

If we flip the kitchen over to the highlighted yellow addition, we were going to widen the doorways. The one that is angled has staircase behind it so we were going to open that up to have the stairs partially exposed. If we keep the kitchen in the original spot we would need to keep the access points the way they are.

I actually think this is a great kitchen design. I like the way the cabinets emphasize the corner entrance in the floor plan (and I never like slanted cabinets like that). You’re a little short on prep surface next to the stove for my taste, but that could be recovered by bringing the cabinets forward to be flush with the stove.

Oh great, thank you Peter. It took a while to settle on the space and we are going to put some floating shelves above the angled cabinets to avoid backsplash issue and help with symmetry. We are now trying to think of the space will work better in the back area. It seemed like a bigger space but we aren’t sure if the size island would still work/how to layout.

The plan has too much drawn on it and the dimensions are too small to read. What are the measurements for each wall in the proposed space? Do you need a door to the exterior?

No door needed and windows are wherever works. The dimensions are 17.5 feet(along the wall that has the doors on plans) by 12 feet.

Here is a plan with the same range and island layout, but there are different options. You could have a pantry to the left of the fridge, with a back door on the same wall as the French doors were located. You could have a passage to the former kitchen/new DR(?) directly from the kitchen, and relocate the pantry to the exterior door location (red rectangle and arrows). There's an optional prep sink between the fridge and range. Or, fridge and range could go on the short wall, with clean-up sink under wide windows on the long wall, and a prep sink on the island. I don't think the kitchen is deep enough for two standard rows of cabinets plus 15" seating overhang on the island, without encroaching on the living area, but if your furniture arrangement allows the deeper island, then it might work.

ETA, here's the kitchen plan with the deeper island, on a grid so everything is to scale. You'd need a minimum of 44" to walk behind the seating (NKBA recommendation). It's rotated to better fit the page:

So after pricing out the change in location for kitchen, it doesn’t make sense for us to relocate. We will be sticking with the original kitchen location and move forward with the extension/kitchen reno. I’m having the most trouble with the range wall. The angled doorway as previously discussed causes a lot of headache, but I’m also struggling with sizes of the upper cabinets. Our cabinets are framed flush inset shaker with bevel. We are planning on a 42inch hood and have 36inches on either side for cabinets. I’m not crazy about having a large 21” cabinet and and a 15. I do like the glass but I don’t want to be all exposed. Any suggestions appreciated!
