Help! Need feedback please

Hello,

I am needing some feedback. I have a 1941 historical home and really do not want to paint it however I keep getting told to paint the brick white. I know it is dark and some people will hate it. Please be gentle with comments. Should I paint it and go against what I really want? Keep in mind, the photos are in winter and no flowers or shrubs are blooming. Normally I have ferns in spring.

Painted brick is very popular right now, but we're not painting our brick and there's no reason you should either! Unpainted there is virtually no maintenance.

What is your goal? You could paint your shingles and trim another color. Someone here has a photo of a brick house with sage green accents - very pretty. Are you preparing to sell?

I am planning on keeping. I was thinking I could paint the concrete a sage green! We are thinking alike!

I am firmly in the camp of not painting brick. Be aware that if you do, you need paint formulated for brick and , yes, you will turn no maintenance into maintenance.

These greens from Benjamin Moore go well with red brick.

If this home is historical than you may be limited to what is allowed. I agree not to paint the brick. The sage seems to be the way to go

Kelly - your English Tudor house is beautiful! Very similar to ours, built in 1940 with trim a bit darker brown than yours. Personally, I would never consider painting the brick - that would completely change its’ character, not to mention, be high maintenance if you do. Your brick wasn’t meant to be painted, sided, or anything else. It is architecturally and traditionally gorgeous JUST THE WAY IT IS..:)

No painting the brick. Your home is lovely and looks wonderful in the trees. I also agree with going with sage. It will complement the brick and the natural setting. You don't need more maintenance in your life and there is not really any going back once you paint it. It's not like paining an inside wall.

Kelly - one more thing, just FYI - I mentioned our trim on our windows, wood, porches, etc. is very dark brown, (so pretty) but also, our roof is a beautiful lighter slate color. So think about maybe lightening up your roof, I think that really would help!

I have a brick chimney on my house about the same color as the brick on your house. I'm not ever going to paint it (my house was built in 1945)! When I did have my house painted, I kept in mind the color of the brick, roof, and the natural stone on the front of the house. From what I can see, sage green would be a beautiful compliment to the color of the brick!
