Hi fellow shade gardeners,

I've had fuchsias for some years in hanging baskets in mostly-shade. Brief shots of sun during the course of the day. But I don't really have the weather for these plants, it gets way too hot and humid in July and they freak out and take until September to recover. I've kept trying in memory and in honor of my mother, who had them everywhere in her Alaska garden, but it's just not working here.

So I want to plan for something else, and I would prefer it to be annuals so I don't have to overwinter so many pots. There are the usuals: impatiens, lobelia, torenia (I'm not really fond of the latter), some trailing foliage plants. But I'd like to do something a little more creative, if possible. Ideas? Does anyone do any kind of coleus in a hanging basket, or do they tend to be too upright, or grow too big?
