@decoenthusiaste the flooring in the bedroom is all carpet. Yea, I saw the previous images you linked and I do like that idea. Currently my problem is that I have a desk (4x2), a plastic chair mat so the carpet doesn't get ruined when in my desk chair (4x4), and one desk side table (2x2). The combined shape of all these parts is a bit weird and is the main cause of my layout problems. See the link at the end of this comment for a screenshot of what I'm thinking / what my problems are right now. @dwisewoman I had actually considered that at one point last week, but ultimately decided against it. I work a lot from home when I'm not in the office and the computer itself generates a fair amount of hot air from the fans / cooling parts so I could see that closet getting awfully warm and uncomfortable. Something I'm trying to avoid with my work space. I appreciate the recommendation though, thanks! I'm attaching a screenshot of my dilemma to help everyone understand the pieces I'm working with here. This may help put into perspective the pieces I've got to work with. The only requirements for pieces that get used in this specific room are the bed, desk, chair, chair mat (beneath the chair), and two side tables (one beside the desk which is used to hold the modem, router, work books, etc and one beside the bed for a lamp, alarm clock, phone charger, etc). These are two different layouts I was toying with to see what works, neither are set in stone obviously. Just gives perspective into the pieces that I've got to use. In the room layout on the right the rectangular item at the foot of the bed is the bookshelf laying on its side. It's an Ikea one that works upright or on its side and I don't need it in any specific orientation. I don't mind moving furniture around a bit when I'm moving in to try out various suggestions so feel free to send any and all suggestions my way!

Ok, using the washer and dryer for scale, I came up with this, which maximizes the luxurious bathroom. Position of clothes closet is completely arbitrary, as you provided no guidance about windows -- you could put it on a different wall, do a pair on either side of a window, etc. What's hard is to work both a good bath and a WIC in the upper portion of the space. Anyway, lots of arbitrary choices here -- you could, for example, put the bathtub into the shower enclosure and move the toilet elsewhere. But it gives you some idea, anyway. You could get a more compact arrangement by shoving the vanity down into the niche, but then things are kind of less efficient to use (you use the sink much more often than the shower!), and the window makes things tricky for many fixtures. If you could compact more, you could probably do the closet on that same wall, but then you'd probably want the door from the hall.

I like the second computer drawing (better than the hand drawing) because it allows access to the closet and the bath from the hallway ... and I prefer keeping the bed "by itself" so your spouse doesn't walk by while you're taking a nap. I agree with the above poster that double sinks + a make-up counter seems like overkill. Are those two pedestal sinks? I like pedestal sinks, though I like them better in a powder room, where storage isn't nearly as important as it is in a master bathroom. Here's a bathroom with pedestal sinks paired with good storage: You really don't want a pocket door on a bathroom. They're great for doors that stay open most of the time (laundry, pantry, mudroom), but they're no good for doors that're opened/closed multiple times a day -- they're harder to open, and they do wear out -- and when they wear out, you may need a pro to fix them. Your closet is a narrow. Clothes need 24" of hanging space, so you'll have only 18" of walking space in the middle of your closet. I think you can afford to give up a foot or a foot and a half in the bedroom to make the closet a more comfortable width ... but if you say, "Impossible!", another option is to place hanging clothes on one side and shelving on the other side ... shelves only need 14-18" of depth. I'd do away with the little plant stand at the door of the closet ... and make the closet another foot long. The entry hallway to your master is both wonderful and horrible ... it'll assure you of privacy and quiet, but it could come off as as a bowling alley. Be sure you have nice lighting in this hallway, and consider some artwork or a special paint treatment. My conclusion: if this were my space, I'd keep it very simple and do something like this: - I'd steal 18" from the bathroom's width to make the closet a comfortable size ... and place a small table (or Ikea shoe cabinet) at the end of the closet ... with a mirror above it -- okay, a bigger mirror than this example: - I'd go with a simple three-piece bathroom, which would fit comfortably in your space. If you're saying, "But that's not enough !", I'd say go with upscale materials rather than size to make it master-nice. - Practical thoughts: With the water-items all in one wall, you're saving money and minimizing spaces where leaks can occur. No one wants to think about a future leak, but if you have one, with this layout, the plumber could go "through the back" through your closet rather than tearing up your expensive bathroom tile. Patching and repainting in a closet is much less invasive /expensive than replacing bathroom tile. - I know you want some natural light, and you could have a short-wide window over the shower. Not as nice as a big window, but best-suited to the space you have. - You'd have space for a really nice big shower with a bench ... and then narrow shelves on the wall across from the vanity. - I'd go with one nice big vanity /one nice sink with drawers on both sides rather than ho-hum duplicate sinks. No one ever really uses the sinks at the same time anyway.

cpartist - you're absolutely right, the dresser is 21"! I think I started drawing it at 18" for convenience and then eventually assumed it was 18". As for the closet width, I swear google suggested 5' with clothes hanging on both sides, but now can't find that. Regardless, thinking about it, you're right, it does seem like it would feel narrow. Steven - The master bedroom is only 10.5'x11', so I think it would feel out of proportion to have such a spacious closet with a moderate bedroom size and bathroom. Besides, we were looking forward to more counter space than our current 36". I'm leaning towards trading in my dresser for a smaller one to make more room in the closet (and include a linen closet); a smaller dresser would also give me the option of having it in the bedroom. As for the bathroom door location - there's a wall that juts out from the hallway side between the bathroom and bedroom that is 5'8" long that we can't move (without significant difficulty and mess), so that precludes a door to the bathroom from the bedroom. I do like swapping the toilet and vanity though; my husband is now saying he's fine losing the water closet.
