every part of the plant is technically toxic ... and if you live in MI ... you may as well learn to ID the group with this easy trick ... because the birds spread them EVERYWHERE ....

my usual warning.. is that many have grape like clusters of pretty berries that look grape-ish ..... and MIGHT attract young children who might not know better to not munch on them... so i taught my kinds to not forage. and come ask daddy for food when they needed it ... and.. i also went after them with a vengeance with the spray tank on my 5 acres ...

they are loosely associated with both potato and tomato.. go figure on that ...

Looks to be Eastern Black nightshade. It's distinctive for the purple undersides of the leaves.

Fully ripe berries are not poisonous. After doing much research and trying them myself, if they were, I'd be dead or have gotten sick and have not.

They have a sweetish, tomato like taste. Some older recipes recommend not using the skin when making pies and such because they posses a bit of a peppery element.

Ever had candy flavoured as wildberry? This is your plant, y'all. You can definitely tell in the aftertaste.

Very well could be this species. But I would not eat it unless out in the field with an expert guide.

Yes: a body needs to make dang sure they have correctly identified a newly encountered plant before eating it.
