Lighting Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Sconces in Master Bath

I have a 79 inch single sink vanity tucked between a wall and a linen closet. I want a large mirror and wall sconces. How much space do I need between the wall and the sconce and the mirror and the sconce? Assuming a 4-5 inches wall sconce, do I need 12 inches from the side of the mirror to the wall? Thanks!

I'm no decorator so i don't know the rules, but here's a pic that seems like what you're doing. you can kind of estimate the distances
