Let’s see your U daylilies today. This has gone too fast, only a few more posts after today.

Silly quote of the day: “ Had a bad mixup at the grocery store today....when the cashier said” strip down facing me”, apparently she was referring to my credit card.”

Undercurrent is a favorite all around daylily today, great habits. It has rebloomed for me two out the past three seasons.

Upgrade was added as a single fan, had its third bloom season this past summer. It Has multiplied nicely and increased bud count. Another Gossard that has dome really well for me.

Nice daylilies! I really like all of them. Upgrade is lovely! I really like its eye. Ultimate Illusion is a very interesting pattern. Would you say it has an eye and a watermark? I also love the white edge on the sepals.

Umbrella Cockatoo is a plant that grows well here.

Una de Gato bloomed for the first time last season. We like it! In case you are trying to translate the name, the n in una should have a tilde over it.

Unending Melody is a nice little flower, but I have had no luck in trying to breed with it so it will be going this spring. Sometimes we just decide that there are better similar ones to use. For example, instead of using this one, I would rather use Sam Abell (similar color, but better edge) or Empire of Dawn and Dusk (more white petal color).

As you might imagine, Unforgettable Fire is one of Bob's favorites. We first saw this one in a daylily nursery about 20 miles north of us (the nursery is now closed), The owner said it was a slow grower and she had none to sell. Bob tracked it down on the internet (the internet with all its faults makes buying rare plants a lot easier) and found a lady in New York who sold him a piece. It's a great grower and increaser for us.

Unstoppable is a nice daylily. It's not always this dark red. Most of the time it's a bright red. This picture was taken during some cool weather.

Bob mentioned that we should get rid of Untangle My Emotions, but I am just reluctant to. It is shorter than we like and we don't breed with it anymore. I am sentimentally attached to it though. When we first started buying daylilies, the addiction hadn't taken hold yet and we didn't spend much on any one daylily. Consequently, our collection was comprised of older varieties. This one was sent as a bonus and I was thrilled. It was the newest daylily we had in the garden. It was just one tiny fan and it didn't bloom for two years but I was happy.

Bob loves Up Against the Sun but I am not a fan. It's tall and a great grower, but I don't love the color.

Sherry, Upgrade is lovely. I really like that one. I recently noted that I have 17 Gossards in my collection, so it is evident that I tend to like his plants. David, Ultimate Ilusion is a nice one even if it is your only "U". I actually don't have any of them.

Nancy, Umbrella Cockatoo drew me to it, not sure why because I am not usually attracted much to yellows, buy I keep going back to look at it.

I only have 7 daylilies that start with the letter "U" and only one image available at the moment . Here is Hanson's Utopia or Oblivion Kind of a plain bloom compared to more recent daylilies but a robust and floriferous one .

Sherry - I've always admired your Undercurrent and Upgrade.

Hoosier Nan - Unending Melody has a simplicity that I like. I very much like the looks of Untangle My Emotions. Tell Bob you're keeping it.

David - Ultimate Illusion is attractive. It reminds me of Secret Sentinel by Elizabeth Salter.

Laura - Up and At 'Em looks like a nice Davisson.

Untamed Heart is my 2020 intro that was named after Gypsy cat Sammie. It's my only U.

I see no parentage for Untamed Heart in the NGA database, or foliage type. It appears to have good bud count. No size listed either.

Mantis - NGA will not have the full description until details are added to the AHS database. Here's the description for Untamed Heart:

(Zimmerman 2020) 5.5 inch blooms on 28 inch scapes with three-way branching and 18 buds (range of 12-23).. Semi-evergreen Tet. that blooms EM. (Has never rebloomed here) Rosy lavender petals with blue lavender eye and cream and gold edge. Yellow to green throat. Fertile both ways and sets seed in temps of 90 plus. (Precious Candy x Twilight Illusion) Good multiplier.
