Need help with front porch.
Comments (52)Oh...even with everything blooming & green, I'm glad you got rid of all those shrubs. It just really opens up the front of your house! Got my own Labor of Love in Front Royal, VA. 100 yo place that has been keeping me busy for 7 years. Gotta balance out time to do it, money to do it with & deciding what I can do & what needs a pro. But...I had a huge payoff this past weekend. 2 neices of the family member who lived there from 1933 to 1979 showed up at my house! I was so excited to find any relatives! I invited them in & I could tell they were pretty emotional. They spent summers at this house for many many years. (they looked to be in their early 70's) To see their faces being back in a home that had so many wonderful memories attached.,...that is more than I ever could have hoped for! So...you just never know who might be driving by your place one day & suck up the nerve to drop in! :0) Keep a pot of tea on hand!...See Moreiced up windows!!
Comments (13)hmmm :) I understand what you posted, I'm not sure some it applies to this house. It isn't sealed that tightly, because we have drafts coming in around the doors (despite having replaced the outside ones with good storm doors) The front has a porch that never gets iced up but there is a draft coming in from the three doors (yes, it's like an airlock :) --the middle door has weather stripping, go figure. We rolled up a blanked and use it for a draft stopper. The side door has ice forming inside and the back door usually has some too, but now it's not as bad since we put back the old door inside the kitchen. again, go figure :) We finally got rid of the bats and mice!!! there were mice in the attic!!! We had the crawl space under the back porch fixed--insulated, etc. as well as the foundation of the whole house. Bats were still getting into the attic so we had a carpenter put in vents that eliminated having those window screens which got iced up anyway and probably provided enough space for them to crawl in. There is no off position on the Aprilaire--it's quite old--I had the furnace system checked and they said the Aprilaire is fine and works well. There is insulation in the attic floor and around the bath vent, but the vent might be leaking? I've read that the humidifier should be turned off, but I can't figure out how to do it, maybe it's just turned down? The attic is subject to all of the bad weather because the house is taller than it's neighbors. The old windows were so decayed that one of them almost fell out, thus the new windows :)...See MoreLava Rock on House
Comments (3)HI -- Some people love this stone and others just hate it . Please don't make it shiny , that will just look tacky . What is making the stone look so unappealing is the bright white beside it . If that could be creamed down then the stone will look a little better perhaps . I say just live with it for now until you can change it . Maybe give it a good scrubbing (power wash ? ) ....See MoreRearranging studio flat
Comments (14)Sorry for my multiple posts, I got another idea. Try turning the dining room table around so that it is long, instead of wide (if that makes sense). It will help fill the dinning space better, will be more invitting (more likely to eat at the table) and will flow well with the flow I mentioned earlier. Please post updated pics. Would love to see the progress and will invite more seasoned regulars to chime in....See Morekathyg_in_mi
