I think that the one sided waterfall just isn’t done as often, but it’s what we did in our last kitchen. (My talented hubby designed and built all of the cabinetry, including the walnut island waterfall top) I had him do it one sided specifically because I wanted a towel bar on the side of the island closest to my main sink. As you can see, we also had seating. I think your kitchen looks to be coming along very nicely and I think when the rest of your stuff gets in the kitchen, that leg won’t look out of place. I think it looks unique... in a cool way, not like a fake way of saying “Uh... oh... that’s nice...” and meaning the opposite. LOL! Unique in a good way. ;) Anyways, we sold our house a couple of months ago, and every showing we had people flipped out over the kitchen, it was probably the best feature of an already awesome house. Nobody commented that the waterfall was only on one side, I don’t think most noticed that it wasn’t both sides. Hope that helps!

thanks skmom. firstly, lovely kitchen! I know I might be worrying about something not worth my time when we still have one million things to still do. however I can visualize things very well and not one thing I've planned did not come to life as I imagined (famous last words I'm sure) so this has thrown me off a little. I did notice though that although not a double water fall, the other side of your island has an end panel so visually closed the gap.

I like the leg on the seating side of your island... I might prefer a filler piece or something on the working side of your island though because my initial thought when looking at it is “that is probably a hassle to sweep between the leg and the cabinet.”

Hopefully you have some steel under that as legs alone will not cut it.

According to the manufacturer, you aren't allowed to insert a mechanical fastener into the side or top of your estone to fasten your dishwasher to keep it from tipping. Maybe you could epoxy one of these to the bottom of the top.

IMO that was the wrong choice a waterfall counter IMO works best when done on both sides of an island or not at all and IMO this case was a not at all.Waterfalls limit seating there is no way in this kitchen you can pull off a waterfall IMO but those legs really just don’t work at all

Where are the code required outlets going to be placed?

I think its a great look and goes well with the rest of your kitchen. in looking at inspo pics it seems without that corner leg might look better. the one by the cabinets looks good to me but can't see it on the other side where the stools are. here's some inspo pics and I hope it helps

I’m not one to say this often, really. But I think that if you have room in the budget I’d fix it. I love how skmoms island had a cabinet of drawers on one side. It basically served as the leg. Another option would be to just waterfall both sides and add more cabinets underneath. Again, it’s a great space. Really pretty finishes. I really like everything you went with. I just feel this will always stick out. And if it bothers you now it may always. Good luck with your decision

I don't see a real problem aesthetically except perhaps the leg is too big. Perhaps go down to a 4x4 leg instead to give the island a lighter and less heavy look. Good luck!

There are several issues with this design. It is not safe as built, and will become damaged over time. Hopefully it doesn’t also damage a human when it breaks. That is not supposition. That is fact. Unsupported quartz is not approved for the spans that it is being asked to cover here. You need a DW end panel to the left of the DW, to provide support for the counter, and to allow the DW door sufficient clearance to open.

The rear overhang requires a steel channel substrate for support, that ties into some vertical support post or wall. Since there is also a side overhang on that side, you’re getting into a complex custom steel frame for virtually the entire island. There isn’t a lot of cabinet meat to tie that into, with only a sink and trash cabinet there.

I cannot believe a fabricator would install this as shown! This needs to be deconstructed immediately, as it is unsafe. Then it needs to be redesigned by someone who understands both cabinetry and counter limitations.

There’s also the issue that there is no room left for the required electrical outlet box on the waterfall side. There appears to be an overhang designed into the opposite side that would not allow for a compliant outlet on that side. So, no outlets, when 2 are required.

Thank you for your comments. There is an outlet on the top corner inside of the sink cabinet for the DW, and beyond that it is my understanding that only one additional outlet is required. This outlet location is design dependant as of right now and will come after more trim is added. for the counter top. this is 3cm quarts with a 12 and 16" over hang, not as big as it looks. The 12" doesn't require brackets and the 16" has brackets between the cabinet and back panel.. the legs are a design choice and to make the corners more visible to small heads. I know I need the DW mechanical faster, again in process. I trust my fabricator entirely and the structural entegraty / safety is not a concern. I will look at smaller legs 4" while I continue on.

I really don't like that half-waterfall design. At all. Not even in the designer inspo pics. It's like someone walking around in a pair of pants with only one leg. Either do a full waterfall or don't do it at all.

That’s scary! We used steel brackets for my overhang.

ok. so I have a 25sq ft island. noted I need 2 outlets there are plenty of options either pop up counter mounted or under the front of the island and near the waterfall edge behind trim thets yet to be installed. I'm not concerned about this at all. i appreciate all feedback but really looking for comments about the legs and waterfall. structural entegraty and passing inspection is a thing for me to worry about and I have no concerns.
