Hood liner - alternative to Wolf?

Hi there,

I've read so many posts on hoods and hood liners, but I can't quite find what I'm looking for. I'm hoping you might help.

We're doing a 36" induction cooktop. We're sensitive to the issues around both internal air quality and sound - and my goal is to be able to run the fan often and to have it be quiet. So we're doing an external blower that the HVAC sub is supplying. (And we'll build the cover to look like the cupboards.) I trust the GC/HVAC sub going to do the right thing about duct sizing.

They've asked me to get the liner. The HVAC sub said he'd used Wolf before. I see they have one that's 40"x22". But I'm an over-analyzer/over-shopper.

Do you recommend anything else for the liner? Are there good options that are less expensive than Wolf?

(I imagine that what I want is easy to clean/good light options/variable speed on the fan.)

Many thanks in advance for your help!

If you want to do a great job at improving capture, extend the overlap with the cooking surface. In particular, this means that you'd want to increase the depth from 22". This might require raising the hood, but that generally makes for great ergonomics anyways. Also, make sure the hood has sufficient height to capture sudden bursts of fumes.

There are many manufacturers that sell liners. But if you can't find what you're looking for, you could always go with ModernAire. They build all their products to order and to your precise specs.

Make sure to get a model with baffles rather than mesh filters

Thanks!

I would appreciate your thoughts on which brands are worth looking at first. And if there are any other issues besides baffles vs mesh and price and size that I should consider. It seems the pricing is quite variable. (I can get a Zephyr liner with 1000 CFM blower for the cost of the Wolf without the blower. )

Thanks!

I'm not going to recommend liners I've never seen, much less owned, but will recommend an in-line silencer for your duct to reduce the blower noise perceived back at the hood.
