We recently moved into a home and are in the process of updating the kitchen. We aren’t changing the layout, but instead replacing counters/sink, cabinets/drawer facings to shaker, new backsplash, under cabinet lighting and new range/microwave. The shape is a standard U shape with a peninsula. The kitchen faces south and has an entire full wall of windows that shower it in natural light.

The picture below shows the kitchen just after the black granite was replaced with new marble quartz.

I’m torn on cabinet colors. The current white cabinets show everything and I’d like to go with a two tone approach with darker on the bottom and lighter on the top. I really like dark colors like BM after midnight, cheating heart, flint and wrought iron. And for the top, I really like white (Chantilly lace, decorators white, etc) I don’t want anything with a yellow tinge. We plan on bringing the two together with a grey and blue backsplash.

But I’m wondering if it’s too stark of a difference in cabinet color? I’ve done it before with a very dark island and while cabinets, and it worked, but never with lower cabinets with a peninsula.

Any thoughts?
