Help With Layout - Mirror over couch?

Hi all.

We just recently ripped out our terribly dated built-ins. See before and after.

I am replacing couches and things have been heavily moved around and out of the room while we continue to renovate. We are finishing up the painting and top of the fireplace this coming weekend.

With that being said, I have AWAYS had issues with seating in this room. I’ve opted to do a longer couch on the wall with the birds. And have two of my tan mid century loungers brought back in (I have one in another room currently.
Does anybody have any great suggestions for furniture placement? It is driving me insane.

Also, can you hang a large mirror over the couch? It’s such a huge wall. What are your thoughts on a narrow console behind couch and a lamp? Is that too meh?
You can see my aesthetic. Vintage modern eclectic I’d say. (Nothing hanging currently will stay. I am moving and shifting things around.)

    Thanks for your feedback!

We had a console table on that wall. It made it hard to navigate because of the small living. We like it open right there now... I thought maybe a bench and large art piece. But my husband is all about having it open. 😅

The ceiling grew on me! I don’t plan on changing the ceiling fan for a couple of reasons. We already replaced it originally, we are listing this home in roughly 3 years (trying to update on a dime), and I need airflow being in a humid climate. 😆

I’m glad you are not changing your ceiling. The ceiling fixture I posted is an inexpensive ceiling fan, just so you know. You can click on the link.

i can understand about the console

was thinking this might be workable rug, unless you finally decide you want more color

Also suggest moving the plant on the hearth closer to the bookcase.

Along the mantle, it’s just where the built in sat. So, I still need to paint! No plaster. It was just paint!

It’s not set yet. I usually move things multiple times... my husband is installing the mantle on Friday. I have a new couch in a cart! 🤩

    Looks much nicer.

Have you tried swapping the positions of the white and wood chest and the glass end tabl? Or turning the cabine to face into the room rather than the sofa? If that’s too tight I would also consider angling it like your tv cabinet If that looks ok. Right now it appears you can’t open the drawers because the sofa is in the way. Turning the cabinet might also give you another surface for setting down a book or glass.

Sorry to keep moving your plants but I would try that tall one on the other side of the fireplace.

I like the bookcase and the vignette you had on it better than the black and white chest. I think no on the mirror, unless you go with one of the other suggestions to do multiple small ones. And don’t buy a ready made grouping, thrift shop to find them, even if it takes awhile.

I’d like to suggest this for some inexpensive decor (and I still suggest trying out switching the glass table and the cabine)

take down the metal wall art and hang these instrad. Fill the frames with whatever you wish. Could just be coloed squares of paper or fave photos or artwork

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m not a fan of either of the gold items you suggested. I’m up for switching my furniture around more. The bookcase was initially by the front door as a console and I moved it back. Decor is tricky with me. I’m pretty picky since I love to buy original mcm items for decor. The mantle and beach sign are just sitting up there to keep the cat off our fireplace as there is a small slit by the insert. 😆 There will be a large piece of art up there or mirror. I do lots of shuffling.
The dresser came from a back spare room but can easily go back. I’m more than likely ordering my couch this week and it will be a black or grey leather. I just can’t decide.

Rachel, yes. I have a few local vintage sellers I follow and a large vintage matted photo cropped up that I’m trying to purchase. I love my bird wall piece. My bedroom is vintage. My whole house is vintage. 😬 Just an example.
