You start a closet design with knowing how much space you need for the stuff you own. Do you have a ton of shoes, alot of long hanging dresses and coats do you share this closet ? All those questions need answers. This is not a huge closet so it needs to be weel thought out.You could do hanging space all along the left wall and across the back with 12” deep storage on the right for shoes , accessories etc. Hanging space needs to be 24” deep to accomodate hangers you could do that on the left and a dresser on the back wall. So think about what needs to go in there to start. I have 90 pairs of shoes that is where my closet design always starts

Hi Patricia, I will be sharing this closet with my wife. Neither one of us have a ton of shoes but maybe 30 pair between the two of us. I like the idea of doing clothes along left and back. And shoes and accessories on the right side. We do have a dresser in our current closet but it is a smaller closet then the one pictured here so we’ll probably do away with the dresser. Thanks

I would center the door and have room for clothing/shoe storage along each side. Hanging clothes take up about 2 feet of depth, so you would have 2'-8" of walk space. The mix of hanging rods, shelving, etc. is determined by your own needs, but if the hanging clothes are nearest the door then the shelving could be a U-shape at the back of the closet. Increasing the width to 7'-0" would give you a little more moving around space.
