Floor/Kitchen remodel

We want to renovate the floor and remove the wall between kitchen and livingroom and add an island. Looking for floor and kitchen color suggestions to go with dark brown furniture. Hubby prefers dark floors and I prefer light grey. Worried it will look too dark or show scratches with little kids. Help please!

Update: The entire wall in between will be knocked down and looking to put an island. Our living room wall is sage green and very light beige on the other walls. We would redo the cabinets and the appliances. Currently white appliances ... depending on the cabinet color, am flexible with staying white for appliances or stainless steel. Thinking maybe grey or light grey/blue or white cabinets? Not sure what color the countertops would need to be. Definitely a big job!!

I take it you are ripping out the parquet? And you have had the wall assessed for load bearing concerns? Are you redoing the ENTIRE kitchen...or just adding an island where the wall used to be?

Kitchens have 7 design elements: one is flooring. There are six OTHER concerns going on with a kitchen. What are you KEEPING and what are you getting rid of?

What is your budget for this? Kitchen budget? Flooring for the entire home?

As far as the flooring goes. I personally prefer either dark. Or lighter wood color. Not into gray. But that’s me

Sounds like a fun project.

Definitely get a structural engineer or a good GC in to help you with this project. I love love love dark wood floors (Have done it twice) and if not dark super super light practically bleached wood floors but not gray more of a soft creamy color for me.

What colors do you like? Besides the leather sofa what other colors do you have in the space? What kind of wood in in your home.

I lean toward blues and light beigey grays.

My old kitchen medium dark red oak with soft glass slipper BM painted walls.

A favorite neutral for me is Balboa Mist BM
