Kes, it *might* be doable on a tall pillar, but I doubt any tuteur you could purchase would be big enough IF you can make it happy.

Cl SdlM was probably 12-15' or so for me, and I'm not that far from you. So in a good location, it should eventually be as large for you. Before I lost it to RRD (arrrrrgh!) it was on an 9' arch trellis. It reached the top and back down half way to the ground on the other side. It grew well there, but I always struggled to get much bloom anywhere but at top of the arch. I had intended to cut it back and re-train the canes in a zig-zag pattern to try to force more blooms lower down. But before I got around to it I had to remove it, so I'll never know.

I will say that it took at least five years for my Cl SdlM to really strut its stuff. I was just about to give up on it when it suddenly threw up about a dozen new canes, lol. So it seems to need a little more time than even the three year sleep/creep/leap scenario for most climbers. You might just need to be patient for one more year.

EDIT: I forgot to say that mine was own-root, but I think that's probably what you have, as well. It's hard to come by as a grafted plant.

EDIT 2: I also forgot to mention, I have another, younger SdlM that is just two years old. I'm still waiting on it to prove it's going to live, lol.

Thanks, fig. That's helpful. Yes, it's own-root. It isn't growing backward, it just isn't growing. This will be the 3rd season here. I don't need it to be fast but I would like it to climb someday and 2' tall doesn't lend itself to that. Good luck on yours, though.
