The two usual ones over here are fragrantissima and standishii with the hybrid purpusii typically being something that has to be sought out.

L. fragrantissima smells great but is listed as invasive in much of the south. I have one I inherited with the house and keep it because it's the only thing blooming in February, but I'm considering pulling it out. Or at least stripping off all the berries when they form. Just two cents.

That’s interesting. Mine sets very few berries despite being popular with early flying bumble bees and I’ve never found a seedling.

Except Camellia Forest has sold L. x purpusii for at least 15 years, probably much longer (one of the first plants from them I planted in this garden) so it could have come from them. Mine has made some berries for a while (never copiously, interestingly) but I've never seen a seedling.
