The stiff ones look like suckers from a neighbouring tree or shrub. Without foliage its not possible to say what it is The roots are not identifiable without some top growth. For future reference it’s preferable to put the pictures into your post. People don’t like clicking on links. Your location is also useful for identifying plants.

Hi, thanks for your helpful . I'm new to posting on forums so I'll be sure to attach them in future rather than link. I did post my question on another forum and they said similar, best to wait for foliage. Once it's got some growth hopefully it'll be easier to identify. We're in the Shropshire, UK. Thanks

Now I know you’re also in the U.K. I’ve had another look. I think your first plant looks like a Clematis which has been cut to the ground. It could be our wild Clematis vitalba or it could be a garden worthy cultivar. Being positioned next to a fence it could well be the latter. Unless you allow it to grow a bit so we can see the leaves it is not possible to tell. The same goes for the tree suckers. If you show us leaves we can id it. Meanwhile look around and see what woody plants are growing nearby that have simiar buds and bark. I see an Ash seed in the grass but that’s not what the suckers are. It looks as if turf was just laid over the ground without clearing it properly first.
