Anyone need a laugh?

5 years ago

Someone just commented on a post of mine from 2018 when I first started growing a citrus and had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t. However, this picture proves how far I’ve come. Given the recent climate on this forum, I figured we could all use a laugh and I will sacrifice my own ego for you to end the night on a high note. What was I thinking here? It had spider mites at the time. Feel free to tell your scariest citrus stories from your youth. Only wrong answers here :)

    😂😂 Hi Grace, you must be referring to me! 😆 As you see my two tales of my two Meyer lemon tree photos, you know how much desperate I am trying to at least saving the left one. I don’t think lighting is an issue, cuz they have 10-12 hours of lights, both natural and the grow light that I don’t turn off until 11 pm.

    I didn’t see any photos. Go back to that old post and share them there. I’d like to keep advice out of this post for a reason :) I only want funny mistakes you made when you started. I’m sure you can learn a lot from what other people have done wrong. First lesson, don’t cover your plant with plastic wrap to try to contain humidity or kill spider mites.

    Beautiful. :-) But not unreasonable and it would prepare it for shipment to any state with inspection laws.

    And no, after today I do not need a laugh. I need a drink and possibly a little Xanax. Unfortunately, I'm a teetotaler and making small, intricate clay roses instead.

    Haha whatever gets the job done. Glad you survived the day either way. Come on though, no huge mistakes you wanna fess up to? Help others learn from your mistakes and possibly laugh at how naive we all once were (and probably still are).

    Nothing I haven't burned to destroy the evidence. And those weren't mistakes, they were experiments.

    That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-)

    How about.....

    under-estimating the pwoerof the California summer sun;

    and

    trusting hanging fruit with 2-legged lemon-lovers hanging around.

    How about sticking dead fish parts under one of my potted trees hoping that the nutrients from it would help feed my tree, then forgetting about it and bringing it inside just to find tons of bugs in it and a smell I could't find for weeks. Lol Then it was dying so when I wanted to check the roots, well I was surprised at what reminded me of what I did weeks prior. It died.

    I got that idea from an old neighbor who use to stick fish under his trees and around, outside in the ground.

    Hahahahaha! Oh, Mike! That is hilarious. Second lesson: don’t use dead fish✅

    OK, when one of my pet fish passed away (a beloved betta who lived for five years), I dug a grave in a potted plant and buried him in there.

    That worked out very well, actually. But I sort of forgot about it. And everything decayed except the skeleton, which was completely intact in the root mass when I changed the soil. It was...a little creepy. At least it was nice knowing the other parts went to feed the plant.
