It is edible but is hairy bittercress, Cardamine hirsuta. It will spew seeds over a wide range and is a nuisance. The turnaround time from flower to seed is extremely quick.

The yard looks rather empty. I would say any plant is better than no plants at all. Otherwise I agree with the opinions above.

If your lawn isn't chemically treated, it's a tasty early spring green (flavor like watercress or black mustard). It'll be gone by time you mow.

But it’ll leave a thousand seeds behind it. And, depending on the OPs climate, it might not disappear. It’s a year round grower here. Is this a lawn?

Cardamine hirsuta is a common weed, but, as far as I know, is not invasive. It reseeds itself very freely, but will not take over the whole world. It grows mostly in disturbed or bare ground.

Those pods hadn’t yet burst in the picture. But I bet they have by now.

This plant will dissappear in SC when the weather heats up. Debarron, how do you prepare yours for eating? I'm not sure it's common around here, but I've discovered another tasty brassica weed. I let my lambsquarters self seed for more forage yum.😋

Me too. I make a soup with bacon, potatoes and either green beans or leaf lettuce and greens of choice which now usually includes lanbsquarters. And lots of dill at the very end. I'm going to the store now. 😋
