I have 3 hostas that are up but I am in Georgia. Other things blooming include-- evergreen clematis, bloodroot, 3 types of pulmonaria, cherry, pear, peach and J. magnolia trees, edgwarthia-red and yellow, star magnolia, forsythia, winter honeysuckle and many daffodils and hyacinths.

Today I went to the Growers Outlet and brought home 4 trays of different perennials. They can't go out yet but I wil lkeep them on the front porch for 3 or so weeks until last frost date. It is looking very spring-ey outside right now and no frosts in the 10 day forecast. Everyones J magnolias and pear trees are in full bloom so going for a drive today was very nice.

Yay! Finally some activity here and outdoors! All I've brought home so far was a Lilac Perfection dahlia tuber and some fertilizer and potting soil. Oh and a new garden hose. My daffodils are coming up and the forsythia is getting fatter buds, so maybe blooming next week. No pips tho, last year I had some pots in the basement window well that came up early but nothing this year.

Don't want to see any Hosta pips for a month. Butt he Tulips are sprouting and the Crocus is blooming. I need to get some Snow Drops

No pips here......won’t see any til late April-early May. Only the Crocus is up, oh and some buds on Weeping Willow and Burning Bush.

I found these a week ago and thought, no, it's too soon! Then I couldn't place what hosta this could be in that spot. I moved so many plants last year that I wasn't sure.

But a week later I'm breathing a sigh of relief. It's not hosta pips, it's Eremurus, foxtail lilies. I'll assume they know what they're doing coming up at this time.

Yes! Hosta pips, as well as a lot of other things popping up. I found 14 hostas showing themselves above ground. Peonies, clematic, daylilies, daisies, tiarella, pulmonaria --- all looking like spring.

I hope not! Baltimore still gets some very chilly nights. I don't expect anything until maybe early May.

I have several hostas that are pipping: Unruly Child, Coconut Custard, Raspberry Sundae, Montana aureomarginata.

Rainbow’s End, One Man’s Treasure, Fire Island, and Aqua Velva. The fragrant hostas are pipping, as are Wolverine and Cameo.

Plantaginea yesterday..looks nibbled..it's near the driveway..wouldn't the driveway produce some radiant heat?..I didn't disturb leaf litter anywhere to look for others..this one has been early before..

All the pots you see here have various degrees of growth. The one in the foreground with the unfurling leaves is clausa var normalis. That particular pot actually has runners coming out one of the drainage holes, it can become a bit of a run-away....

I found pips yesterday- an old variegated NOID that I tossed into a depression in the soil last year gopher cage and all. I think. My memory may improve as it unfurls.

Question, I've never used the ammonia drench but I'd like to know at what point do you begin to use it? When you see the pips as in the pictures above or do you wait until they get taller, etc.?

miles - I've already done it once. I'll plan to do it again in April. I think the idea is that you'll kill off the eggs, as well as any slugs that may be there.

Yes I do it as the pips emerge. Once I see most of them coming up I start the drench. Too soon here for pips though. I find that I need to do another drench about 3-5 weeks later or if I see any damage beginning on any plant.

Finally seeing a few pips. Wolverine, always the first, Sagae a pleasant surprise and a few more. Hope to watch them a little closer this year when the frost and freezes come.

I have pips now too! A ton of them are waking up but exactly who is jumbled up in my mind. I was hopping all over the yard weeding and moving stuff so will try to post pics after Easter....by then it should be getting very interesting:)

I might have one pip but thankfully that's it since it might be quite cold later this week. I also have been weeding, pulling out tons of leaves and mulching in my daylily beds.

miles..maybe you have..but I'd leave debris around the hostas..provides insulation from a frost..that's what I do..clean up in May..Lol..

I can’t believe it!! In Milwaukee, cold, cold Milwaukee, my Liberty pips are up! I normally would not see any pip for a month. But Liberty is in my sun bed which happens to be protected from the wind pretty well.

The other pip is my Oriental Yellow. They do rise early every year and grow so fast. It seems a 1/2” a day.

The temps here in the 60's have resulted in lots of daylilies that are 4-5 inches up. I only hope that the hostas stay underground. I don't have the time or the energy to cover them after a long day at the office.

I took a look around the yard today and found some more pips. Can’t believe it! They are not up, up, just barely showing if I search a bit: found Royal Standard, Wolverine,Silver Lode and Mighty Mouse. The Stella Day Lily is also up. Still there are probably more but too cold to search much in the front yard where the wind is!! I know, I’m a wimp.
