Hi Malcom - I‘ve considered that. Was concerned it might look strange to have drapes on such small square windows, however that might be my best option.

Happy to know I’m not the only one who laughed with (not at) @dawn_89! Seriously though, I have to disagree with @Malcolm - I wouldn’t hang drapes since that would cover up the pretty wainscoting & also overwhelm the high windows. What I’d like to see is a bigger view of the room to put that fireplace wall into perspective & I’d also like to know specifically what the OA’s issue is with this wall. I can offer that if the fireplace surround wood was the same color as the wainscoting, the lack of symmetry wouldn’t be as noticeable. But, since we can’t see the whole room we don’t know if that’s even an issue. So, Brandi, please ask your question!

I agree; I think if you paint that entire wall white including the wall, fireplace and trim, it would not be as noticeable but I would also add a tree to the right side.

I would frame out the space so that it was equal distance from the two windows and place a tall vase or sculpture on the right side of the firebox to balance the bottom.

I don't have any solutions, but I feel your pain. I really like symmetry and that would eat away at me. I do agree with @Malcolm that painting the entire wall white might draw less attention. Personally, I would call a contractor to see what can be done re: the ventilation issue.

Thanks everyone! I want to paint the fireplace white anyway so I think I’ll try that and see if that makes it less noticeable. @Erin asymmetry drives me crazy even when intentional so you can about imagine how this asymmetrical accident makes me feel. ha!

Have you looked into the cost of moving the window over?
